GTX 980 in laptop

Other manufacturers are putting desktop GTX 980 in their laptop lines. I am just wondering when Alienware will put this in the 17. Alienware 18 needs a refresh badly.

Hi,

We have not been given any information on this. However, we offer an Alienware graphics amplifier where you can install a GTX 980 and run it with your Alienware laptop (the amplifier is only compatible with the newer laptop models like the Alienware 13 R1/R2, 15 R1/R2, 17 R2/R3).

you cant run 2 980 GTX because the maximum standard for an external adapter is 330W

other manufacturer allows you to have 2 980M SLI or 1 980 GTX M probably because if it goes to 500W it needs a fan or something.. maybe it's because someone will be crazy enough to run it w/o being plugged in and it would cause the battery discharge to happen so quick the battery would degrade after a few cycles which would be a warranty problem or there isn't enough cooling to support 2 980 GTX M in the laptop form factor no matter how big it is there is no way to dissipate all the heat even unless its watercooled but the market for that would be so low to be worth making and it would be impossible to hybrid the watercooling and fan because of size that even if it were to work they would have to make a 500W adapter for it but in the end it wouldn't be worth investing a factory to make it..

in other words it wont happen

Not the (M) GTX 980....I think he is talking about the desktop GTX 980. They are putting those in some laptops now.
