Games Crashing
Hello,
Around 5 months ago I had an issue whilst playing games. It would play fine for around 10 minutes and then crashing, the only way to exit was to pull the power cord out. I updated from bios a9 to a11 which fixed this issue. However I recently started playing Hitman: Absolution and it would play fine for around an hour and then start lagging unbearably. So I updated to bios a12 hoping to fix this issue. Now again the game plays fine for around 10 minutes and the screen goes black and they says Directx or something has crashed. I then press Okay and get sent to the desktop. So a similar issue to before.
Anyone know any fixes? Cheers

Reboot, Go into bios, find the pci-e gen 3 option, set it to either disable or gen2, I'd don't recall the exact option at the moment. Reboot and report back.

Just updated the drivers and now it's lagging from the offset.

Okay I have just written up a more detailed explanation.
Ever since I got my x51 I have had problems when trying to game on it (different issues).
Around 5 months ago: I tried to play Sims 3, and after around 10 mins or so my volume would make a noise (crackling sort of) for a minute or 2 whilst the PC lagging and then it would crash. The only way to turn it off was pulling out the power. So I thought this may have been just with Sims, but then I purchased Skyrim and it was happening on that too.
Later fixed this by updated bios from a9 to a11.
However around a week ago I got Hitman: Absolution and it would play fine for around an hour and then start lagging. I tried to fix this by updating the bios to a12 and then updating to the latest nvidia drivers. Then tested Hitman and Battlefield but now they just lag from the start. Although I did play Skyrim for around an hour yesterday and that played fine.
All throughout this time Football Manager has worked fine, but that's not exactly a demanding game.
Here is the system:

Current benchmark for Hitman:

Yep, that's done the trick my friend! Just played Hitman for around 3 hours with no lag, it has made the computer slightly louder when gaming but nevermind that. Thanks for your help. What is that setting in the bios meant to do anyway?

There are different generations of PCI Gen 1,2,3. 3 is the latest and in reality barely offers any detectable performance difference from Gen2 with the latest graphics cards.
Some of the current gen cards can exhibit issues with communication with Gen3. The card isn't defective its just that Gen3 is rather new and bleeding edge tech can sometimes have challenges. Therefore we offer that "switch" just in case you encounter issues. You aren't losing any performance and the extra "noise" you hear is because the onboard fan is now getting proper communication from the system to ramp the fan higher and keep your GPU cool.
FYI, I work for Dell/AW on X51 so that's why I said "we" :-) I'm not the regular support person on the forums but I drop by from time to time when I can help.
Glad you are working 100% enjoy the X51 she's a great little box.
