HELP! GPU caught on fire!

Hi,

Today I just started my Alienware M18xr2 and played minecraft for just half an hour as usual, and then suddenly the screen went out and there was a strong burning smell and a little bit smoke. I opened it up and found that part of GPU was burned into black.

I went to a pc clinic and all I got there was 8 beeps when starting again with their video cards.

Is there anything to do about this?

i never seen something similar .... but it smell like you will have to change the GPU....
or you can try to contact a electrical engineer and ask if it can be repaired.. i don't think so.

Hi, I've had a few of these!!!

That looks like a AMD7970

You mentioned you had a M18xR2, so does that mean you have two GPU's?

Which card is burnt?

If its GPU 2 that is burnt and you still get 8 beeps with the burnt GPU removed then you have blown both GPU's

If it is GPU 1 that is burnt you can try swapping them over to see if it boots.

You will possibly be able to get the burnt GPU repaired, but you would have to take it to a component repair specialist, it may be easier to purchase another GPU.

But that burnt GPU is now dead, don't bother testing it before and if you get it repaired
