Hard Drives = caching
I still intend to create caching / storage setup with my 256 gb ssd (area51 r2 late 2014) and I have at least 1 hdd. The question is , to enable RAID (required to use intel SMART) will I have to install a second ssd in the 3.5 " bays. Some forum describe 1 ssd, 1 hdd then enable RAID, and make changes in SMART RST. How does this work with x99 express? I see RAID is advertised to be supported in
3.5" hdd bays only, However x99 is advertised to have the SMART RST support. What is The Truth.??

Hi,
With the SSDs on this model just the 3.5'' bays will support RAID, but if you want to be able to use RAID with the 2.5'' you can just switch the cable from the 3.5'' to the 2.5''.

This may seem a bit uneducated but This would entail moving the cable for 1 hdd from the 3.5" slot
o the 2.5" slot. Then selecting RAID cfg in bios. Then accessing the intel RST. Right? This would be GREAT!

Did u mean switch cable from 2.5" slot to 3.5" slot.? Or will Raid enable for the 3.5" hdd if u move it to 2.5" slot.?
