High DPC execution time / microstuttering in games

Hi,

I bought an Alienware Area 51 a year ago, and am running with a triple-sli setup of 3 Geforce GTX 980.

I've been struggling with my games on this PC ever since I got it . I keep getting microstuttering in every game, even with disabled SLI.

Going through several sources, I was able to identify that nvlddmkm.sys (that is, the drivers for Nvidia) is running with difficulty at 7300 microseconds, and that it causes the highest DPC execution time.

I tried doing a clean install of my Nvidia drivers, to no results.

I'm quite unsure what to do next. I can't seem to find a solution to my problem.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Which version of the NVidia driver are you using? What BIOS version are you running with your Alienware? Does this only happen with online games?

Hi Rodrigo,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using the latest version of the Nvidia drivers (361.43). I keep them up to date with GeForce Experience.

As for the BIOS, I am running the lastest one from the drivers website (A03).

The stuttering happens in every game. Witcher 3, Fallout 4, even other games that require very little resources.

When I run LatencyMon at Windows startup, the nvidia drivers runs at a normal 300 ish microseconds, and then spikes to 7300 microseconds and stay that way until I reset my computer.

Hello,

Thanks for confirming this. Does this also happen without the SLI option enabled. If you have not tested this, please do so to confirm if the issue only happens with SLI.

Yes, the problem is there whether a game is running or not, whether SLI option is turned on or not.

Hi,

Just to confirm, when the stuttering happens, are both the video and audio affected?

Hello,

Yes, both: The video will freeze for a while, then the audio will stop or repeat the last segment it played over and over again. It will rarely lead to a crash to Windows, but it's usually annoying enough to hinder gameplay.

Hi,

Try doing a clean installation of the NVidia drivers. If you have already done this, send me your Service Tag in a PM so we can look further into this issue.
