Hi Lorrec, you do. You will need to get a cage for the SSD. Just send us an email to: AWUpgrades@dell.com asking for the piece and we will help you for sure :) Also try to add your service tag and my name somewhere on the email so I can have a look. Welcome
I have four of these very incompattabile Crucial drive (brackets) for the M4 2.5 SSD drives and need the appropriate cages to install them in my business Aurora r4 machines. All of the M17 laptops did not have any trouble at all, but the R4 chassis did not accept the provided bracket. Please let me know what pound of flesh you need to get me the installation cages that will allow me to install into the r4s. If it helps, one of the service tags info , as was shown to me in the location indicated by the service manual for the R4 is , first line: STDBRYLS1 (last charecter possibly I) : next line: EXP Scv Code: Third line: <ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>. Please quote me the cost of the required cage pieces and an approximate ETA. Much obliged. Name.. Ron , email: <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>. I tried the link listed about and got dead air.
I am not sure what you need but these are on the R4 parts list (VMG92, UJ175, 6XD4C). Call Dell Spare Parts 1-800-357-3355 and ask for prices and availability. Provide to them the part number.
The Aurora's (in R1 days) used to come with extra empty black plastic removable trays in the other 3 HDD bays (4 total). The extra SATA cables for those bays were also installed.
Sounds like now they only come with one tray for the one installed drive. Hardly worth saving $5 a machine for the amount of trouble and inconvenience it causes.

Bought one at Amazon that works fine since I never received a reply from Dell at either email listed by Frank.
