Keyboard problem

Here is my story..

I have traded someone for my laptop for an alienware m17x R1. He spilled coke into the keyboard and we replaced the motherboard. The computer runs fine, however the mouse and keyboard does not work.

Mouse: No AlienFX lights or no mouse movement. Works fine with USB mouse. Possibly a broken cable from changing the motherboard?

Keyboard: This is what I am most worried about. There was AlienFX lights and the keyboard worked VERY slowly. If you typed at my normal rate, it would recognize maybe 2/10 key presses. But if you type very slow it will get all keys. So naturally, I replaced the keyboard. But the problem still persists. But it works fine with USB, so I know its not anything software related.

Hi alexander7567,

Clean the keyboard using the appropriate cleaning materials and turn it upside down to drain it. Once the keyboard has dried, turn on the computer.

Did you check if the keyboard works in Safemode with networking?

Restart the computer and tap F8 on Dell logo and select Safemode with Command prompt (Windows 7).

Let me know the status.

The keyboard does the same thing while in the BIOS menu, so I know that is is most likely hardware. Anymore ideas?

Hi alexander7567,

As you have tried replacing motherboard, keyboard and tried USB mouse which were not helpful. I believe the cables connecting to the keyboard might have failed I’d suggest you to use the below link and check warranty status:

If the computer is in warranty with complete coverage or accidental protection you may send me the system service tag via private message. I will check and see what can be done.

If the computer is out of warranty or has normal warranty you may contact the out of warranty repairs team on 18002884410 (U.S only). They can help you further.

The computer is definitely not still under warranty.

I have discovered new details that might help solve this.. I was playing a game the other day using the built in keyboard, and noticed that if i pressed the move forward button quickly, it would keep moving forward like I am holding the button still.

So when i press a key, that key is stuck being pressed for literately about a second and it will not allow me to press any other key until that key is released. Let me make sure I am clear when I say they actual physical key is not stuck for a second, but the keyboard is acting like it is.  And what i don't understand the most about it is that it is intermittent. I could turn the laptop on and the keyboard is acting up, i could then put it into sleep mode and bring it back it immediately, and it could start working again. then do the same thing it it would not be working anymore. Sometimes when it is working, I can even be typing on it and all of a sudden it stops working again. But it is most often not working right.

Hope this helps anyone solve this problem for me as it is really annoying!
