Long Delays on Alienware Computer
I ordered a computer that would both be used for business as well as gaming/media purposes about 2 weeks ago and it is still in production, with the newest estimated shipping date changed to being a month later than the original date. Two months for a computer is totally ridiculous, especially when we told them we were moving and were assured it would be here by mid December. I can have General Motors customize a car and ship it to me quicker than that. I could also buy parts from Newegg and various other suppliers and build one faster. I read good things about Alienware computers and wanted the convenience of a system that was set up and ready to go however. I wasn't aware that they would take so long in the production process.

This is a desktop or laptop? Also, when did you put in the initial order?

Its also around the holidays so its safe to say to expect some delays. What desktop or laptop did you order? Ive reading some delays on the Area 51's but my computer actually came in sooner then the first expected date. So you never know.

No monitor for me. And the rep i talked to yesterday confirmed I had nothing on backorder. He said: "Its a new platform, and they have to go through a lot of testing, and you know it's an alienware so it's got to be perfect"

I ordered an XPS 16 on October 21. First, I was told it would arrive by Nov 17. That was changed to Nov 24. That was changed to Dec 14. I actually received the laptop on Dec 1. I would have canceled but the Alienware and the HP Envy were the only other machines that offered a Core i7 processor and a SSD. I figured the Alienware, being Dell, would also be delayed. The Envy doesn't have an internal optical drive. For me, that was a deal breaker. With luck, you may get your machine before the estimated date on the latest delay. I got mine 2 weeks "early." Did you order a SSD? I'm wondering if that caused my delay.

hmmmmm thats interesting. I too ordered a Aurora desktop and only had to wait a little over 3 weeks for mine. Maybe a piece that you ordered is out and their waiting for the next shipment. Possibly your monitor for example. It could be a number of things. Really sorry to hear about the delays >_< hang in there!!!

The rep I talked to said nothing was on backorder, that it was being built, and my order was expedited - I'm sure a scripted response, who knows how true. So if it isn't an issue of parts, what is the delay? My problem here is moving. I don't want to be receiving a computer in the middle of a big move, which they assured me was no problem. Further, it never even occurred to me that it would take longer to build a pieced together desktop than for US forces to take over Iraq, so I went ahead and ordered.

I originally order the following system on 23 October with an original ship date of 6 November. The date slipped to 21 November. On 21 November I was notified that I had to cancel and reorder due to incompatible component that was included in original bundle. Grudgingly, I reordered with a new date of 8 Dec that date has now slipped to 28 Dec. All this even though the system is "expedited". This is two months for a system that was paid for up front. Poor, poor business practice! Probably will not shop Dell in the future.

That is pretty much the same system that I ordered back on November 12th. I also ordered the 22" Alienware monitor. Original delivery date was 12/11/2009, updated to 12/18/2009. I sure hope it gets here before Christmas, it is a present for my sons.
