Hi,

This system does support M.2 SSDs, just make sure its the correct size, they should be about 80mm.

Only SATA M.2 SSDs will work in the 17 R2. PCIe SSDs don't really work in the laptop (they do in the 17 R3, though).

I see... Thanks May I know what kind of software I can use to clone my current Windows in HDD to SSD? And how to change the boot order in BIOS, to set the SSD as Windows boot drive? Thank you.

Don't know much about Aiienware laptops, but I just put a Samsung M2 in my Area 51. I did that, with a PCi card card, in the 4x slot.

Regarding the software used for migration, I used the data migration utility that Samsung furnished on their website. It migrated everything and apparently made changes to the BIOS auto-magically.  Craziest thing is that the whole process only took about a minute and a half, with a very small image (~60GB). It was so blazing fast that I couldn't even see what it was doing, once I clicked the start button. Suffice to say, today's SSDs are very fast, especially the NVMe ones.

I just ordered AW15 R2 i7-6820HK 8MB Cache, 128GB M.2 SSD + 1TB 7200RPM SATA.

Can I swap out the M.2 for the PCIe 512GB or 1TB later?

So does PCIe supported by 17 R2?

No. Only for the most recent lineup.

M.2 SSDs like the Samsung 850 EVO, Crucial MX200, and Transcend MTS800 will work in the 17 R2 (I've used all three in my 13 R1, which accepts the same type of M.2 SSD the 17 R2 accepts).
