M17X RX media control buttons don't work when a game is running.

I recently purchased an M17x R3 and I noticed that my media control buttons don't work when I am running games (Star Wars:The Old republic). A friend has the same computer except he has the GTX560 and I have a GTX 580 and he can control his volume with the control buttons in-game and I cannot. I can't even eject a disc unless I am at my desktop. I believe this is just a setting that I need to change, but I can't find it. Has anyone else had this problem??
