M17x R3 Upgrade/replaced GPU to Nvidia GTX 660M

My Nvidia GPU died the other day at a most inconvient time.  I searched the internet for a replacment but I couldn't find the exact same GPU anywhere so I went with the next best course of action; upgrade the GPU.  I found a GTX 660M and installed it.  Once Windows finished loading I adjusted the screen resolution and proceeded to go through the install normal process.

The fun begins with Windows doesn't regognize the display adapter, only sees a standard VGA adapter; when I attempt to install the Nvidia software it fails.  Looking at the BIOS it sees the Nvidia but a different card.  When I go to Nvidia and run the auto detect app it recognizes the GTX 660m but tells me to go to Alien/Dell for the driver.  I am in a loop that is never ending.  I have upgraded the BIOS, run all the Alienware/Delll recommended upgrades and still cannot install the correct drivers to run the card.  Need some help because having a 3K paperweight is not cool.  Frustration is getting the better of me on this.

Ouch that stinks.  I just ordered GTX 660M today when my card died.  The new M17's come with the GTX 660M standard have you tried to download that driver?  It should be on the Dell website somewhere.  Let me know how it goes.  My GPU should be here on monday.  Not looking forward to having the same problem.

Thanks,

Todd

By the sound of what you're describing, most likely the driver isn't installing properly.
My best recommendation would be to do a Clean Installation of the Driver.

This tutorial right here<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>might help you out.

Let us know how it goes.
