M17x-R3, "incorrect" power adapter, Nvidia GPU issues

hi all,

I am having problems with my nvidea gpu it appears to work in any and every way I can find until I try to play a game. previously ran bf3 and crisis at a decent rate and now wont play without super low frame rates. I have gone as far as a factory reset and still no joy as yet I have tried several methods over this forum so far and nothing has worked. I tried un/reinstalling the nvidea graphics (made no difference) and also the intel (screen went black till I restarted). any further methods or points to try out ? ah and when I press fn+f7 it says its automatically configured.

as for the power thing I wasn't bothered till I tried to update my bios which I cant unless there is 10% battery mine is at 0% and will not/has not charged for a while. it still runs happily with the adapter in there it is the original that came in the box.

cheers for your help in advance

Hello CTP89!

Have you check on the temperatures of the video card and the processor?

It's been on a couple hours cpu reads at 51c on diagnostics

i cannot find a temp for the gpu either it's not being picked up or not there ( video card passes diagnostic check though)

the program on the above link (CPUID HWMonitor) only shows the cpu and battery state not the gpu

To check on the video card temperatures you can use the program GPUZ

i have downloaded gpuz

in the intel settings it shows as 50c and all the numbers seem about right mhz wise

in the nvidea settings show there to be 0mhz no meomory usage and no temprature readout

ctp89,

Did you read through this?

* Turn the system off
* Remove the battery from the system
* Disconnect the AC Adapter from the system
* Press and hold the power button in for 20 to 30 seconds to drain any residual charge
* Reconnect only the AC Adapter to the system
* Wait for 30 seconds and then turn the system on
* Press F2 to enter the System Bios

* On the Main screen, it should show both the Integrated Graphics and the Discrete Graphics. What do you see?
* On the Advance screen, what is Primary Display set to?
* Exit the System Bios and allow the system to boot all the way into Windows

* Click Start- Turn Off Computer- Turn Off
* Reinstall the battery into the system
* Turn the system on
* Once into Windows, press FN F2 to display the Battery Status Meter

Did that

in bios it says Intel is the integrated and nvidea is the discrete

there is no option on the advanced  for primary display.   Bios is. A08 (can't be updated due to battery)

on reboot  fn+f2 says battery enabled

Cool. Now have you opened the Nvidia Optimus software and told it to use the Discrete GPU on game executables?

* Right click on the Desktop, then left-click NVIDIA Control Panel
* Click View from the NVIDIA Control Panel menu bar
* Check Add Run with graphics processor Option to Context Menu
* Click Apply- OK if listed
* Close the NVIDIA Control Panel
* Right-click on the game executable shortcut on the Desktop
* Choose High-performance NVIDIA processor
