M17xR3 nVidia 460M GTX drivers

I have downloaded these drivers for my video card from Dell (the most recent mind you) and it causes blue screens whenever the intel drivers pass it off to the nVidia drivers. I can run everything fine without them, but with them it bluescreens constantly. Either update your drivers or get in contact with nVidia as the drivers on their site DO NOT AND WILL NOT detect your card, halting installation before it even starts.

Nope they are in fact the mobile drivers. I have read up and apparently I'm not the only one. It seems to be Dell sneaked in a way to lock out the nVidia drivers and have it only able to be downloaded through them.

Deeply agree with the topic, and just learned that if your using IE9 as your browser - whenever I download any drivers for my M17xR3 w/ Gtx 460m, It's always detected as a virus? Other browsers don't and when they are fully downloaded on other computers they're deleted by their antivirus software right after clicking. Still on topic, where are the latest drivers from nvidia/dell ?????

I dunno, when I talked to a tech he said they were getting a ton of phone calls about it.

i wouldn't expect any quick updates from dell since the new gtx 580m is out now the 460m is no longer a main focus and who knows when they'll look into it

Lots of times Dell will take a GPU and mod it to make it cheaper to produce. In turn the cards are always slower then stock cards and can never use stock drivers.

in the day of my M1530 8600M GT  i used laptop2video for a modded inf since nvidia did not support mobile and dell drivers were .. ah god old  honestly after that i never had an issue with that little system .... before that overheating was an issue but ohwell  ...

Will the driver download from Dell's website for the 580M for an M17X r3 work and be an upgrade for the 460M cards? I noticed nvidia's website seems to combine the cards in the drivers, and the 580M driver version number on Dell's website is 269.03 vs the 267.64 driver version for the 460M.

Thoughts? Any M17X 460 owners downloaded and installed the driver update for teh 580M and if so, how did it go?

FYI Everyone with an M17X R3 460M card: I downloaded the 269.03 580M driver from Dell Support to try updating my driver from the 460M 267.64 driver version Dell has on their download site.

I figured I'd try this since nVidia always seems to pack their drivers together for those range of cards.

Well, it unpacked, installed, and is working like a champ.

So for anyone running an Alienware laptop with a GTX 460M, I'd suggest trying the 580M upgrade. Note that before I did this I made a System Image backup of my machine just in case something went wrong.

Same advice applies. :-)

I'm curious if anyone else has tried it or has updated information? I have the 460M and am running through the same problems.

I am too. The 295.73 drivers or any others will not install. No matter if I remove everything or not. Must be something in the card. Running  285.62 from Dell but it kills my TV tuner in media center.
