first off .. the support agent is misinformed or was thinking of the more recent M18 NOT the M18X ... windows 10 on this machine isn't supported by dell... unless something changed recently , my M18X R2 died..., but I ran windows 10 just fine that being said...
what version of windows did it have?
if windows 7 ... you need update drivers..
if windows 8, windows 8 and 10 have option built in to do a clean reinstall removing everything ..
was it a clean install or an upgrade.. I never was successful with upgrading and getting everything to run right.
windows 8 drivers for the most part including the alienware control center (AWCC) and the on screen display (OSD) drivers worked fine on mine with windows 10... but this was in march.. cant assume much has changed with windows 10....
Really? I'm so sorry to hear that. :( Were you able to get it fixed?
It was a clean install - my mistake. I didn't do it, I had my friend do it as he has more patience and is tech savvy.. lol
It was originally Win 7 but all the drivers updated to Win 10 for him with little to no problem. And he installed AVG and Malware bytes. But I want to install the Alienware themes, software, ect..
I ran windows 10 for a few months .. I had windows 8 tho.. but the M18x R2 support windows 8 and 99% of drivers worked fine for me on windows 10.. the wireless)killer network I left as windows driver... seemed more stable ..
just make sure to download alienware control center and on screen display(osd) for windows 8 .. should be fine .. I
AWCC controls lighting fans etc... OSD is just as it says On screen display and controls for other things..
as for updating to windows 10.. doubtfull... it would be windows generic drivers for the components and either ati drivers or NVidia drivers for video..
I found to be honest windows 7 pro ran nicer then windowz 8 did for me... but I didn't have much time with windows 10 before my mobo bricked.. :( but ran really well for the time I did with no issues with AWCC or OSD(windows 8 drivers)

Should I have Win 7 installed on it instead?
