MG900 Not Recognized by Device Manager

All,

I'm trying to install a different mouse on my computer - the Alienware TactX (MG900).  I already downloaded the drivers from the Dell website for Windows 7 x64.  However, every time I plug in the mouse to any USB port on my Alienware Aurora, the Device Manager doesn't recognize the MG900 and it says that it can't find the driver.  As a result, the MG900 is categorized under "Other Devices" in the Device Manager and doesn't load a driver.  I tried plugging into every USB port I have and no luck.

I would appreciate any and all help.  Thank you so much.

Go into device manager again and uninstall the mouse. Then shut down the system. After shutting down the system unplug it from the wall. Once you do that hold the power button for 30sec. Then plug it back in, boot and see if it will recognize the mouse and install the default drivers.

That has worked for me in the past for a few USB devices.

Thanks morblore.  I will try that.  Before I do so, should I install the latest Alienware Command Center software or does that not matter?

Nope it has nothing at all to do with it and nether does the Dell TactX driver. Windows has a default driver for it and should install it automatically. If what I said to try doesn't work then it could be an OS issue. I would try the mouse in another system at that point to make sure it is functioning though before moving on to the OS.

Could be a an issue with the USB ports on the mobo but it's unlikely. I've never had all the ports go bad and from what you said you only mentioned the mouse. But I've had your issue many, many times and doing what I said has worked. Deleting from the device manager and then rescanning for hardware changes works too but I don't think that will for you since it doesn't work in any port.

I followed your instructions and it recognized the mouse under HUman INterface Devices as well as Mice.  But, it still showed the Alienware Tactx mouse as "Other Device" with a yellow exclamation point.  I uninstalled the Other Device entry and lost control of the mouse.  I rebooted and it now only shows up under "Other Device" and no longer works.  Very frustrating as it shouldn't be nearly this difficult.

The mouse works fine in my work laptop (Win7 Dell) with the drivers identified without an issue.  Its my darn Alienware Aurora desktop that is misbehaving.  Very frustrated.

Repeat again and this time once it's installed and working install the Alienware driver. You can reinstall Command Center if you like to for the AlienFX but you shouldn't need to reinstall the ACC. It should just pick it up.

Would uninstalling Command Center and the Mouse CI 1.1 software and then rebooting from scratch be a good idea?  Windows 7 is just not identifying this mouse consistently.

Once you get the mouse to work with the default Windows driver then all you need to do is install the Alienware driver. That should do it.

The other device means it needs the driver for the extra functions. You really shouldn't need to reinstall ACC but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Alienware  TactX  KG900 & MG900 Drivers and Utilities update?

I have been looking everywhere for an updated software for the Alienware TactX  Keyboard and Mouse KG900 & MG900.   The latest I see available online on Dell is the same as the original disk I have from September 2009 v1.0.51.0.

You would think Dell would provide an updated software with more functionality or ability with more preloaded profiles for todays games or just to even to make it more user friendly.  Its now 2011 , and windows 7 64 bit is the norm these days.

We need an updated software please.

sincerely

Morblore,

I think that is part of the problem.  When I go to manually Browse to choose the Alienware / Dell driver, I cannot find it.  It is not a listed option when I Browse manually in the Device Manager.  I did install the 1.0 and then 1.1 drivers that I downloaded from Dell.com.  However, they are not listed as an option even if I browse to the \dell\drivers directory where the files were installed.

Can you help me understand what I'm doing wrong when trying to manually update the drivers?

Thanks Morblore!

This one for the Aurora R4 is version 1.10.39a.GM and was released on 11/2/2012.

BTW it's not 2011.... If you are going to copy and paste a post you made 2 years ago at least edit it to reflect the correct date.

Will do.  I will let you know how it goes.

Assuming that I get it working again, do I simply ignore the Alienware Tactx mouse under "Other Device" with a yellow exclamation point?  My experience has taught me that you should never let something like that linger.

That should go away after you install the Alienware driver. If it does not then do a uninstall of the command center software only, reboot and then reinstall it and see what that does.

You shouldn't need to manually install them. Once you boot up and plug in your mouse Windows should install a basic driver. That will allow the mouse to work. Then you double click the Alienware driver you downloaded for the mouse and run the installer. That's it.

From what you said before it was working. You followed my instructions and had the mouse working. Do that again BUT do not uninstall anything. Instead click the driver you downloaded and follow the on screen instructions to install it. That should be all you need to do.

So I follow your instructions again.  Uninstalled the mouse from Device Manager.  Unplugged, held the power button, replugged and turned it back on.  The mouse auto installed drivers and started working.  Of course, the yellow exclamation point was still there after all the drivers were installed.  I rebooted the machine and Windows removed the recognized recognized device under Mice and the mouse became inoperable again.  So, I'm left with only the yellow exclamation point device under Other Device that doesn't work.  I can go through this cycle again with screenshots of the Device Manager if that would help.  But something is definitely amiss with this.
