Memory Pre-Boot Assessment Test

I was testing the memory and the pre-boot assessment test shows CPU 4 address idle (something to that effect) and the tests will then fail. Is this a memory module or the CPU memory controller? The code was 0123.

Any ideas?

0123 is a memory integrity test failure. Run the test again with one memory stick at a time in one slot at a time.

You still under warranty? If so call them so you can get a new stick. One of them is bad. Go run memtest too if you like, its much better but takes longer.

I have since installed Corsair 12G 1866. Not sure the i7 950 is capable of running them properly but I will buy a 990x later this year.

As far as the warranty goes.. I think you makum funny!

Dell cancelled my three year warranty after one year. I tried for one full year (the second year of my warranty) to have them replace the 5870 and a plastic part on the inside door cover. I was always told I was out of warranty and was either hung up on or transferred around endlessly. I have since bought my own video card replacements, memory, etc.. I did get the plastic inside door part when they sent me a replacement computer that I never requested or was told was coming. The system was far less capable than the one I owned so I parted out the plastic part I needed and sent their unwelcomed surprise back to them.

The last time (and I mean last time) I called dell was for the cable relocation kit. I was once again told I was not covered under warranty and that the part was an inactive part number. Chris was good enough to get me the kit however.

I have given the memory to a neighbor and have given up on Dell ever honoring my warranty. Just one of those things in life you never would expect to find yourself caught up in but can't seem to fix. In any case there is no amount of expense that would make me consider calling Dell ever again. My system runs great now without Dell parts and drivers from the vendors.

I worked with the BBB and have since been compensated for Dell's failure to comply with our contract. I guess that gives them an excuse to continue to not honor my warranty, I don't know or care any more.
