Need help with Windows 7

If someone could please give me any ideas on how to fix this problem, I would really appreciate it.

My Alienware M11x came with Windows 7. Up until two weeks ago, it was working fine. Now, the login screen will not accept my correct password. I cannot restore the computer back to the original factory settings because it asks for my password (and won't accept it). Also, there isn't a default administrator account that I can log into under Safe Mode. I've tried everything to fix this. I've called both Dell and Alienware and they can't help me (which is completely ridiculous). Hopefully, I can get this resolved as soon as possible.

Check your Num-Lock and Caps-Lock. Were they on when you created the password?

Did you create a Password Reset Disc?

Windows XP was pretty easy to break into (especially Home version installed by Dell) ... never had to do it (yet) on Vista or Win7.

I honestly don't know how to tell if the num lock is on or not. And I couldn't create a recovery disc because my laptop didn't come with a CD/DVD drive. I had to buy one seperately just recently.

This really smacks of the caps lock being switched on. That's the key with a padlock on it, usually found 4 down from the escape key.

The same thing happened to me last weekend. I was in hospital and due to the drip feed they had inserted in my right hand, I was only able to use my left hand. As my password has both upper and lower case characters I used the caps lock when entering the upper case chars. Apparently you can't do that because even though my password was correct it was always refused. And having turned off caps lock to enter the upper case chars using 2 fingers, it was still refused.

I found that restarting the machine and then entering the password without using the caps lock worked perfectly. If you haven't already solved this issue, please try that and report back to let us know how you got on.

Resetting or changing the password are normally tactics used when you forget your password but as I understand it, this is not your case. In the event that you do need to do that there are software tools available that can do this via a simple hack so even if you didn't create a password reset disk, all is not lost.

There's just one thing that confuses me. Using the Windows installation CD to reformat and reinstall Windows does not require you to enter your password so how you got it to ask for that has me pulling my hair out...
