New Alienware 17 screen static
I'm fairly certain I'm going to have to have my laptop repaired, but I thought I'd try one last ditch effort to see if someone is able to help before I go through that process. I noticed a problem with my screen yesterday while gaming where everything on the screen seemed to be kind of fuzzy. When I got out of the game I saw the problem was also occurring on the desktop and anywhere there is color on the monitor. At first I thought it might be an issue with the graphics card so I disabled the Nvidia card but there was still static on the screen. It reminded me of an old antenna TV that's getting bad reception. I took a screenshot of my desktop and when I viewed it on my phone the picture was crystal clear so I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with the graphics card. I tried updating the BIOS but and had no luck. I also restored the system to factory default with no success. When I plugged the laptop into my tv through the HDMI port the picture on the TV was perfect while the picture on the laptop was still fuzzy. At this point I'm basically looking for suggestions that don't involve taking the laptop apart since it's still under warranty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

theoffspringlp,
The new Alienware 17-R1 did not come out until 6/25/13. So it should still be covered? Or did you mean that you have the old M17x-R1 that came out 6/2/9?

Hello theoffspringlp!
After all the troubleshoot that you have done, it sounds pretty much as an LCD issue, if you want you can send me a PM with your service tag and I will check if there is something that I can do for you.

I too have this exact same issue, Alienware 17 purchased in October 2013. The screen looks like it has static all over it. It does come completely clear at times but most of the time the static is highly visible. I have done the same troubleshooting steps, even re-downloaded display and graphics card drivers but it wont clear up for good... any way of solving this?

The issue with mine ended up being one of the cables. I had a tech out to repair it but they only sent him a new screen (not the cables) which did not resolve the issue. Once I sent it in they replaced the cables and everything works great again. Bottom line, it's probably hardware, not software, that's causing your problem.

Yeah I figured that might be the issue, after my rig heats up a bit it seems to correct itself so a connection or a cable sounds logical.
Thank you for answering as well,
I've sent my troubleshooting steps and rig specs to an adviser called Naomi so it should get sorted out soon.

Check out this [DEAD LINK /owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19618918]sticky and follow the steps, it should fix the fan spinning issue.
