New Alienware Aurora getting stuck during bootup

Hi Folks

So my new Alienware Aurora has arrived. Took dell only 1 week to assemble and deliver, yep that fast! :)

Installed all the necessary updates (most drivers and bios are updated with latest driver versions, so didnt had much things to install).

Been using it since yesterday when it was delivered however it already have 3 lock ups during bootup. It usually stops 3/4 of its way when its doing its initialization in bios level or something. See image below where it gets stuck. Keyboards will be unresponsive also, have to power cycle it again and then it will recover and go on with the start. Any ideas why this is happening??

Below are some info about the system

6gb ram

Bios=Alienware A09, 27/4/2010 -- tried installing the one in dell website and it says it is the same version as what i already have

SMBios Version 2.5

Windows 7 professional version 6.1.7600 build 7600

Command Center version 2.5.52.0

Appreciate if anyone can help on this..

Didnt noticed this message yesterday when this screen was occurring. It usually appears (not everytime) after the said lockup above and near the bottom it says "CMOS Checksum Bad".

Searched the net and looks like this has something to do with the built in battery of the cmos/bios. That would explain why my date and time goes out of synch from time to time after logging in since yesterday. Given the cost of this machine, will be calling up dell again tomorrow, this time, im asking them for a total system replacement. Looks like i got either a bad batch or they built this thing in a hurry that they didnt do it well.

Have you got a external drive attached??

Thats the latest Bios A09,  had the same problem last week when i updated the Bios from A08, seems dell havent really thought A09 through yet it has booting conflicts with external peripherals such as Hard Drives Bluetooth dongals Etc Etc, turn off the Computer and remove power cord from the Back and any external including keyboard, hold down power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remain MB power, re attach monitor and keyboard mouse USB ONLY, and turn back on it should Reboot, try and start and restart with any peripherals one per Reboot untill you find the one that causes the Stall(mine was my ext HDD)

I went back to A08 and no Problems since, but do it at your own risk(thats what they told me)

Hope this works

Hi Jay

Thanks for the reply. Actually i have an external drive. Will try it out, however im not sure if its causing it coz as per my second post, looks like the CMOS battery is screwed as even the system clock goes out of wack from time to time after logging in. Like it reset itself back to April 27 2007. Actually when i called up dell yesterday, they first wanted to reinstall the OS back to factory settings, however after i mentioned the CMOS error, they backtracked and just sent my request for replacement for approval. Waiting for it (approval) now. Hopefully it comes quickly coz, its pretty much a big paper weight right now. My son can not even play Warcraft on it without crashing..

Ok, im beginning to agree now with Dissident about the horrible support he is getting with his M17X. Coz, i bought this unit with a 3 year Dell Care Premium warranty. However from the past two days that im dealing with their customer support (CS), I dont think im getting the premium one. As im currently being passed around between Singapore (SNG) and Philippines (PHL) CS coz as per PHL CS yesterday, they dont know what is SNG CS exchange policy hence i was persuaded to give them a call in the morning. Called them up first thing in the morning, and i was told that they will be getting the necessary approval. Then in the afternoon, a PHL CS called my up confirming some of my details, when i asked why, he told me that SNG CS sent me back to them for them to create the exchange request and send it for approval. To who knows who.. Not to mention that PHL CS as per my conversation with them yesterday, dont handle Singapore based users/clients.

Anyone from Dell reading this?? We've paid you a good sum amount of money specially with your alienware products, what we expect in return is a good product, and good after sales support. For my case you are failing drastically in these two aspect.

By the way, im writing this in my xps 1530 coz the aurora is officially a big paper weight now. I cant even finish this whole thing without it just suddenly crashing (screen turns black and that's it, it restarts). had around 4-5 restarts on it earlier just trying to write this post.
