Hello jjb623,

First thing you need to do is shut down the computer, disconnect it and hold the power button down for 30 seconds, connect it again and turn it on, and then try the steps in this article:

AlienHead and Front Bezel Lights Stays On after shutingdown the Alienware Aurora R4

Probably that's the solution that you found, and that article illustrates the steps.

Let me know how it goes please.

I was able to change the lights to black.. I didn't see an actually "off"

However, the fan still comes on after the machine is shut down.. it is a very serious sounding fan..

I appreciate the help, any other advice?

No other ideas about the fan powering up after shutdown?

And for some reason the alienhead started lighting up again.. Is there an actual "off" for that option?

Thanks

Hi,

Access the BIOS by pressing F2 several times during POST, go to the "Exit" tab and select "Load Optimal Defaults".

After that, in Windows, type "cmd" on the start menu's search box and hit enter, and in the command prompt type the following command:

shutdown.exe /s /t 0

And let me know if the system shuts down completely.

Didn't work - Still having the same issues..

However, if I hold down the power button AFTER the computer shuts down, eventually the fan and lights will turn off..

Apparently the shutdown button is not doing what it's supposed to be doing (shutting the system down), instead, it's putting it to sleep or hybernate, so next step would be to re install the Operating System, follow the steps in this article:

Apparently the shutdown button is not doing what it's supposed to be doing (shutting the system down), instead, it's putting it to sleep or hybernate,

If that was what was actually happening, that is simply a setting on the current Power Profile. Check what action is linked to Power Button.

However, I really doubt it is. I'm pretty sure the problem is that the MIO-Board is not reading the current "power state" of the machine or just plain malfunctioning. Double check doc that Natalia linked to above on Mar.7 , or troubleshoot like a MIO-Board problem.

The next step is re-installing windows? That seems like a kinda big pain in the nerves for what is starting to seem like flowchart of solutions.. I appreciate the help but reinstalling windows will be the absolute last thing I try.. Thank you though Natalia..

Tesla, thanks.. How do I troubleshoot the MIO board?  It's not a HUGE deal what is happening, once I shut down windows I just hold down the power button and it shuts off entirely - So I suppose another question I have, is if it is a MIO board problem and I just "live with it" is there a chance it could turn into a bigger problem?

Thanks

Nothing more? still having the issue.. as I said, it's not a HUGE problem, but considering what I spent on the computer, would like it to work exactly how it should..

Check the advanced power settings on the current power settings on the system, and make sure that the shut down button is set to shut down the system and not to sleep or anything else.

Yup, the power setting is set to shut down.

It would seem like an odd thing to happen during sleep mode, considering how loud/strong the fan that turns on is..
