New M11x R2 w/ Intel Core 2 Duo can't upgrade memory with OverClocking enabled

I have a new m11x with the core2duo 1.3 Ghz, over clockable to 1.73 Ghz. I have two new 4GB Ram sticks, Corsair DDR3 1066 MHz

I can use either RAM stick alone with overclocking enabled and everything is fine.

I can use both RAM sticks together for a total of 8GB, when overclocking is DISABLED, and everything is fine.

I cannot use both RAM sticks together eith overclocking enabled: The system will not boot, will not enter BIOS setup, it simply beeps 3 times, pasues, and beeps three times again until I turn the system off.

I can use a single 4GB stick with a single 1GB stick that came with the system, with overclocking enabled, and everything is fine.

Any suggestions? Both memory sticks are fine, its just the combination with overclocking that's a problem, but I shouldn't have to sacrifice overclocking to max out the ram, or sacrifice ram to use overclocking.

Thanks for any help!

We have not tested the retail memory so there is not much we can do. When we tested two 4GB sticks (Dell part number X830D 4GB, 1333Mhz, 512X64, 8K), we did not see the issue.

Thank you for the response. It is such a strange issue, because further testing on my part shows that it is not the two being used together, but by using a 4GB stick in memory bank 1 (the second slot) that causes a problem.

In fact, when the memory is inserted in to the slot, but not snapped in the the spring-catch, the system boots fine! Overclocked, with all 8GB!

I understand the limited support offered for problems that occur while overclocking or for after-market RAM, but I am still very disappointed.  I can make due with just 5GB of RAM, negating the Dual-channel benefits, but I shouldn't have to, or have to pay the premium Dell sets for its own branded RAM.  I have upgraded dozens memory in dozens of computers, and short of having a bad stick a RAM itself, this is the only problem of this sort I have ever had. It simply shouldn't be the case that properly spec'ed RAM in a otherwise fully working computer doesn't work. This is my first Dell, my first Alienware, and aside from this issue I like it, but given this issue and the premium paid for Alienware hardware, it may be my last.

I guess that it is possible that a motherboard exchange might fix this? I will need the following information in a private message if you want to try it -

I appreciate the offer, I really do, but in reading through this forum I have seen multiple other people with the m11x who have had all sorts of problems with overclocking. It seems like getting an m11x that is stable while using the overclocking feature is purely a matter of chance, and I don't want to risk getting a new mobo that has more problems with overclocking than this one-- 5GB w/ overclocking, which I have now, is better than no overclocking with 8GB.
