ODD Just not working

Question

Hi,

Hope someone can assist:

Just got the x51 today, everything was going smoothly, I was installing some of the driver discs that came with the PC, when suddenly the ODD just decided not to work.

I dont mean its ejecting the disc, I mean, I cant even get the ODD to take the disc to begin with. Has anyone experienced this?

Also, havent had a dell (or alienware for that matter) in a long time, so Im a bit confused as to which support line i call.

Try this link, its for the Dell Alienware support page in the US. If you look at the very top of the page there is a contact us tab or live chat.

I have used live chat and most times its very good. Better than waiting around for an email when you are anxious about getting your computer fixed.

Did you get your X51 direct from dell or via a reseller?

It sounds like the ODD needs to be realigned in the chassis. Remove the case cover and slightly loosen the single screw affixing the ODD to the chassis. Test it. If still no go, loosen the screw a tad more. Test it.

Thanks gave that a shot with a dell rep no luck. The odd isn't grabbing the disk either Got a tech coming instead

While your waiting for the onsite service, please read through all of the optical disk drive troubleshooting links in the 'Alienware X51 - Troubleshooting Articles'. Maybe you can fix it using them.
