If you buy one from Amazon, you can get it in three days, and maybe you can even have a system with a better faster expensive processor. Of course, we want to design our system ourselves which is the problem. I think Dell has a good business deal supplying those big markets while concerns of individual dell customers are to grater extent ignored or be waited. Anyway, I want mine. Time is too expensive for me for I have a plan with high expectation!!!
I am only a week over my original EDD, but that's a week too long. I had read somewhere that they like to send out their rude little "order delayed" emails that have no real explanation for why the delay is happening real early on Tuesday mornings. Since I have not gotten any "shipped" notifications yet, I am assuming I'll wake up to one of those. My guess is that my computer will be in limbo for a long time. They know they can keep me going because I've already received some parts of it - speakers and keyboard, and who wants to cancel a computer when they already have some of the parts?
And the funny thing is, this is the first time Dell or Alienware have shipped me a late computer. In fact, their track record has always been early. I am just getting frustrated, however, and I think what adds to that frustration is that one doesn't know for sure that their order is going to be delayed until the very last minute, and even when they do find out, they never know exactly why.
This is my first Alienware, but have bought two other computers direct from Dell. One was two weeks late the other 3 days early. They advised me what the hold up was and told me about how long it was going to take to get the parts. Guess they don't do that now. Will wait and see how this one works out.
Well, at exactly 12:00 my status page changed from in production to shipped. Someone up there must like me. I don't know if that means it shipped "yesterday" (that's a weird word, since it was just yesterday seven minutes ago...) or if it will go out today. I did the next business day shipping, so hopefully it shipped "yesterday" and will be here "today" or later in this day, after morning rolls around... I'm just hoping it's UPS, but Dell has always used FedEx in my experience. UPS seems to get it to me earlier as they have a station closer.
Edit: It says shipped on the 1st... so that means I get it today... I just hope everything turns out alright with it... always gotta exercise cautious glee.
That's great. Enjoy the new machine. One more question. How long did the total process take? From the time it was ordered until shipped. Where I live FedEx is the faster delivery. They get here before 10:00AM, where UPS is around 4:00PM.
Nope... it reached FedEx last evening, but didn't get shipped until this evening, making my one day shipping two day shipping. Not happy about that as I wasted the better part of my day waiting on it (of course, they never provided me with a tracking number, so about 6 in the afternoon after waiting all day I got on live chat to get one.) That's when I realized why. Although the computer was there last night, FedEx didn't receive shipping info until this morning around six. Don't know if this is dellienwares fault or FedEx's.
I must live under the right moon phase or something because I just got a e-mail that said my computer has shipped. I didn't order the computer until late afternoon Sept. 29th, by phone. If that is true the computer will be delivered the 5th and not the 11th. I got free 2 day shipping on it. Wow 6 days earlier than they said. They must have had all the parts on hand for the way my computer was configured and someone not very busy putting it together. What is strange about this, is when I check on the Dell site it says its still in production? The Purchise ID, Order number, name, address in the e-mail is right so it must be the computer did actually ship or is being shipped today.
Well the joy was short lived. I ordered my computer last Saturday the 29th of Sept. I got it today Oct 5th only problem it was DOA. I started it up, I see the Alien head for a half second, get one beep and that's as far as it will go. Called Alienware tech support and they tell me one beep means it has a bad motherboard. They are sending a tech out next Tuesday to change it out. I don't think that is the only problem, but will go along with it until they have to send a whole new computer. Doesn't any company do any testing and QC anymore? You would think at the price we pay for Alienware they would be on top of things like that.
Turns out my problem wasn't the motherboard. it had been miss-configured at the factory? A very knowledgeable tech took one look at it and knew what the problem was, he had seen this before, so I guess they don't test these things before they ship them out. I am also very disapponted with the graphics card in my computer, it is a OEM version. I kind of thought paying this kind of money for a computer you would get top of the line components not the bottom. Over all I really like the computer and don't see any changes needed except the graphics card wihich I will be replacing at a cost to me.
It does not make sense that you got to pay for the replacement. Why? I understand that you just got this computer that has one year guarantee on it. Check with customer care service, or someone who is responsible for that type of problem. Anyway, good luck!
Thanks tunie. Your reply got me thinking that Dell should be responsible for a named brand card and not one that could have been made at a garage in Karachi. I e-mailed my contact with Alienware about this issue but haven't heard anything back. She has been very good before so am sure I will hear from her. I have only had the computer up and running for 4 days so I still have 2 weeks to do something if I am not satisfied. I also have a 3 year warranty on the computer.
I got the powers that be at Alienware and was told the GTX560ti they use is only the OEM version. The reason they gave was when you chose that card there is no cost increase??? That made no sense to me at all, but I made out as they are sending me enough gift cards or credit or whatever Dell does to buy a GTX 660ti which is a lot better card than the GTX560ti in any configuration. I really thought that Alienware would not use any OEM parts in their computer. WRONG!!

Did you get yours? Mine has been delayed for four times in more than one month already, and still waiting.
