Quick Question on Alienware Desktop Aurora-R3 and Win7 vs XP
I got my R3 a few months ago and I've had no problems with it. I do agree with many complaints I've read but I do all my own PC work/repair so I'll save all that for another day. Here's the deal I'm wondering about now.
I HATE WINDOWS 7 !!!! PERIOD !!!!!!!!
I have a the Intel 2600k CPU and 590 nVidea and all the other high end stuff, I bought this thinking (because the wife said so) it better last a few years and after 15 years of buying Dells with just one bad one, I went whole hog on this, but I hate Win 7.
I was thinking about getting Windows XP 64-bit to put on here and ditch this gosh-awful 7 stuff but......will I take a performance hit if I do and if so how bad. I am willing to take little hit there just to dump Win7. I do a little gaming still but with the restrictive STEAM and MS Games Live I buy very little compared to before. (that means I just don't get any, I don't do pirate stuff) I buy it or I don't have it, plain and simple, I play old stuff instead that I bought. (doing the original UnReal now).
I get that IDIOT "THIS IS A COPY" message for Win 7 everyday, then it goes away and all the other invasive garbage in there, I swear, they have more spyware in Win 7 I bet they even know when I go to the bathroom, I didn't have that problem with XP 32 bit so...
is it worth it to get Win XP 64 Bit for my 4 month old R3 Desktop? I'm a wondering????

Windows seven is superior to XP. Fairly sure that if you install XP, XP wont have the proper drivers to run your system.

WIN 7 great. If your getting a "THIS IS A COPY" message that is not windows 7 fault. You either have spyware or its not registered. A lot of the negatives are probably stemming from that issue. Nobody else gets that. I mean a lot of drivers do still support xp but im sure you will run into problems and it wont be as optimized. I say stick with 7. I loved XP too. I hated vista and went back to XP. But windows 7 is way better than XP imo.

I found the problem (sort of) it was one of the updates and then there was one other deal that was hidden, so I turned it off completely. I've only seen it once now since I took care of those items and that was when I unplugged from the net. I didn't mention before that the other thing that I found scary was when I turned my system off to read a book. I was reading for 30 minutes or so and heard a computer fan, I looked up and my computer was coming on all by itself, now that is not only scary, it's just not right. I did the full scan, no viruses or anything like that, I put extra security and passwords on now and found all but one item that turns the system on to send updates to Bill. The thing still comes on, all by itself, every night at midnight, I'll find the reason why soon enough.
The whole thing really makes me wonder, just what kind of world have we created (in these times) that we've become so paranoid about everything. I now ask myself "do I really need to be connected this bad?" It seems like people have almost forgot how to interact on face-to-face basis now.
I don't have a problem with my R3 though, it's ran good from day one, I do think, in some ways, our betters days are behind us, not ahead, but I'm just a crazy old coot from a different time......oh well.....
