Returning from sleep, thermal controller crashes

Every time my computer goes into sleep mode, when I wake it up and log in, I see the thermal controller has crashed.

When this happens, I cannot correct the problem. I must either shutdown or restart the system.  Every time.

Something should be recorded somewhere. Check for MiniDump or check Event Viewer.

Isn't a 2x 500gb RAID-0 seen by the OS as a single 1-TB drive?

Going at it from the "possible bad MIO Board" angle ... what happens in F12 Diagnostics - MIO Board testing?

I see you caught the Forum ScreenName reference

tt's a single 1/2 TB drive (2 X 250)

The second drive is a 1 TB.

F12 diagnostics, everything is 00.

Nothing in the logs except the thermal controller crash.

Called Dell, they're going to send me a new MIO board and then we'll see what happens.

Thanks.

Got anohter MIO board today and this one was good. After I installed the board and software I put the system to sleep and the crash went away. So the MIO can cause a crash when coming out of sleep.

That's great.  What new software?  Does the board come with a disk?

No new software I was talking about Command Center you get on line. When you change the MIO you first need to uninstall CC before changing them out. Then you put the new board in and install CC. I did a freash OS install with mine so I didn't need to uninstall CC. If you don't do a freash install of the OS then make sure you uninstall the CC before installing the new board.

Still not sure how it was causing the crash from sleep but it must have been doing it since its fine now. 1 + 1 = 2,right?

In case anyone is following this thread, I want to let you know what happened so far.

I ordered a new MIO board, and a technician came out to install it.

After 2 1/2 hours he left with my computer in pieces all over my desk.  Apparently he never worked on an Alienware before and couldn't figure how to change the board.

2 days later, a senior tech came out.  He changed the MIO board and the system wouldn't boot.  So he changed the motherboard and the system now boots.

But. He suggested I call Dell and have the system swapped out.

The fans are running full speed, the original problem still exists, and other wierd stuff is happening.

So I call Dell and tell them what the technician suggested.

Guess what?  They want to do problem analysis and solutions over the phone.

I'm not only back to the beginning, but now my fans are always running full speed.

I really wish Dell would get their act together - I shouldn't have to do this all over again.
