Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium not working

Salutations,
I've got a new Aurora that came without a soundcard.
Checking the list of cards that ship with these I purchased a Creative X-Fi Titanium PCI Express.

I've tried the card in each available slot but Windows 7 64-bit will not reconnize it.

The card shows in Other Devices as a Serial ATA device.

Running any of the driver installations for this card always results in the installation aborting with a Deviice not found error.

Is there a trick to getting these to work?
  Thanks,
     Mark

You might try disabling the on-board Realtek sound card in the BIOS. Boot once like that, also without X-Fi installed (basically, no sound-card).

Also, try the X-Fi in another PC to make sure it's working properly.

Be sure you are following the correct X-Fi install procedures. Sometimes, you are instructed to install driver suite before installing card.

...I did everything by the book and did disable the BIOS feature for the on-board HD Audio.

I've only been using the Win7 drivers for sound so there was no software to uninstall.

I've also verified this card is working on another true Intel system which is not an Alienware. Sitting right next to it.

I've installed hundreds of cards, am a Microsoft partner and not new at all to these sort of issues but the kicker is these cards ship with the Aurora.

Any thoughts?
  All the best,

Not a good sign.

So, you did try it in the spare long x16 slot (just as a test)?

I guess you could try leaving the on-board audio active  ... you should be able to have more than one sound-card "installed".

I guess my next move would be to install some other known good PCIe card in all the spare Aurora slots to make sure they even work at all.

You might concider putting your config in your sig. when you get a chance.

...Appreciate the help, honest. ;-)

I'll try and remember to post my config.
It is a dual-boot system, Win7 64-bit on both, one is Home Premium the other is my Dev boot Win7 Ultimate.
(The system is used to create Silverlight Smooth Streaming Screen casts for Microsoft products.)

The only card I didn't swap out was the nVidia graphics card, in slot 1.

In two other slots I use USB expansion and wirless network cards.
I swaped them around and then tried with those removed.

Out of frustration I also did everything in both boot configurations.

I can't test this card in the slot under the graphics card, they are both too fat, no room.

If I don't find a way to get this working in the next few days I'm going to try an ASUS.
  All the best,

Hey there is a patch for your issue. Some SB cards are not recognized by windows. Click this link, pick your OS and then DL the Product Identification Module Update. Once thats done you should be ready to go

Fail.

Tried that patch on both boot configurations.
The Setup.exe, typical for Creative nowadays, wouldn't run, "Setup could not detect".
So I extracted the files and ran the patch setup, which did give a success message.

On both configurations it did nothing. Windows Device Manager still shows a failed Serial ATA device with no drivers.
The updated Creative drivers still report No device.

Also reshufled my cards, again.

I'm not going to waste anymore time with this thing.
Thanks for the tips.

First make sure you have a clean system. Remove the card from device manager along with any folders named creative. Reboot and windows should install it. Then install the patch. If windows doesnt install it stil install the patch and reboot.  After you install that patch dont try to install the driver. Instead run the auto update service program,it should be on there. If its not DL it.  Let it do its thing. Once that has installed the driver then install ur driver/packs onto the system. I'v run into this a bunch of times and doing it this way aklways works. Also make sure you have the right driver.
