Stuck in Power Save mode
Hello everyone, I have a problem. My computer is stuck on power save mode; I can't even turn the computer off nor did removing power from either my Desktop or CPU help any. I press the button to turn on my Alienware X51 and it acts like it is going to start up before turning back off in less than a second. While my monitor keeps telling me it is entering sleep mode whenever I turn it on and off. So I have no idea what it is doing. I'm going to try again later but if anyone has any solutions I would love to hear them, thanks.

That's always the best way to do it. No reason to really come here if you have a warranty and I do believe there is a good chance you do have a hardware failure. I'm sure they will take care of it. They will most likely make you do the trouble shooting steps I outlined but they can send parts and a tech too. Plus they will have the issue documented for your system, it's the best way to go.

Good luck and I hope there is a simple solution.

Hello
Kind of sounds like a hardware failure. Pull the power plug from the system again but this time hold the power button down for about 30secs. Then plug it back in and try booting. You can also try reseating the memory and GPU. For the memory try just one stick at a time. For the GPU you could try it in another system to make sure it's working.
If that doesn't work you can try pulling the power cord and then opening it up and clearing the CMOS jumper. Pull the coin battery and then stick it back in too. If the coin battery is old it could need replacing but I doubt that it is. They are cheap so you could buy another one to try. A two pack is like $3 at a local Wal-Mart.
What happens if you try starting it without being plugged into the monitor?
How to remove the BIOS battery on the Alienware X51

X51 CMOS Jumper Location
Clear CMOS
* Power the system off
* Remove the left side panel
* Locate the 3 pin CMOS reset jumper on the system board
* Remove the jumper from pins 2 and 3
* Place the jumper on pins 1 and 2 and wait approximately five seconds
* Place it back on jumper pins 2 and 3
* Replace the side panel
If you do all that ( GPU works in another system and no boot with single stick of ram) and still nothing then you could be looking at something like a bad PSU or motherboard.

Right... well I'm going to be pulling my warranty (Don't want to invalidate it by messing something up) out for this, but I did try and start it up without it being plugged into the monitor and it started it up for less than a second (Enough for the fans to start whirring) but then it turns right back off. Thanks for the help though, I appreciate it.
