System Fan reads 0 RPM in CommandCenter

Hello,

A Dell service guy just replaced the liquid cooling unit in my Aurora system due to a loud grinding noise, and now when I run CommandCenter I see the System Fan reads 0 RPM.  Now I can't remember if that was always the case, or if the recent service caused it.  I called the support folks and they told me that if the system was running I shouldn't worry about it.  Now, call me crazy, but that sounds a bit fast and loose to me.

In an Aurora system, is it normal for the system fan to read 0 RPM?

In CC the temps seem fine at around 24 C and the CPU Pump reads around 1400 RPM, PCI Fan 1576 and Hard Drive Fan 963, but the system fan is 0 RPM

Thanks!

Alienware Aurora
Bios A09
Command Center 2.5.52
i7 920
single 5870
6GB DDR3 1333
500GB 7200 RPM HD

No, that's not right ... it should read around 1200 rpm at idle.

Shut down and turn off machine and open side panel.
The cooler has 2 separate cables. Looks like they both plug into the connector panel strip that runs along the top of the Aurora.
The little 4-pin cable that comes off the top off the radiator/fan assembly ... be sure it's plugged into SYS_FAN

It looks like it might also fit into CPU_FAN (which is incorrect). While it might spin connected here, it will likely not be controlled or monitored properly.

That was it.  After connecting it to SYS_FAN it now reads 1200 RPM in CC.

Thanks so much!

Up DEAD post.

I run into the same issue, my sys fan reading 0RPM while my CPU fan reading 1200~.

The weird thing is

If I plug the rad fan into the SYS socket, Thermal control reads it as CPU.

if I plug it onto the CPU socket, Thermal control reads it as SYS.

I just don't know what's going on :/

What exact processor model number is installed?

Plug into SYS_FAN (only place it should be ever) and do "Power Dissipation" procedure.

I have installed a i7 920

If I keep it on Sys_Fan I can't have access to the PWM via TC also it's read as CPU.

If I plug it on CPU_Fan I can manually tune the fan and it's read as Sys_Fan.

I don't know how log this has been, I just notice cuz this morning while booting the PC I got a warning saying command center wasn't reading well the hardware and I had to relaunch the application and was getting 0RPM in everything; I could fix it by restarting the PC then I notice they were, for some-how call it, Backwards.

What version of Command Center Suite are your running? Dell removed manual control of radiator fan long ago ... it's controlled automatically now.

1. Cool. Just verifying you really had a Aurora R1 ... or is it an Area-51?

2. Mine reads SYS_FAN as System Fan. Idle RPM around 1200. Also shows CPU Pump "Running". No user control on either.

3. If your CC software is v2.6.x or higher, upload screen shot.

4. This is not uncommon (maybe once or twice a year). Normal fix is to shut-down, Power Dissipate, power up and everything works again.

This is all the info I had collected through all suggestions on different post I saw you were helping people.

i7 920

Bios A11

Command Center version: 2.8.9.0 installed 5 minutes ago, tried fresh install, no luck.

I'm sure I used to read "PUMP running" but now I don't have the Pump tab on thermal control.

I know it's running because I can feel it, the rad is cold and ambient temps are 27~ and realtemp state 37~

I can change anything withing the application, lights, fans speed and why not.

I tried turn off and press power button to reset MIO-Board, no luck

I tried turn off, press power button couple of seconds, unplug and plug every-fan and pump and no luck.

Ya that's messed up. Hard to say if it's the MIO-Board hardware or a software problem.

Try running Dell Diags (outside of Windows). Test MIO and exercise all MIO-Board connected items and see if that will reset it and bang it into submission.

Not sure when the TC screen items are enumerated (at install time or on-the-fly). Might have to clean install CC again to correct errors. Maybe even try dropping back a version (but don't go too far back).

Amb 3 No installed <---- ?

I did serveral test runs because looks suspicious, everysingle time were different.

Randowm installed and 25~25c

Example test 4:

You sir are an Alienware Guru :P
And older version did the job, don't know what's wrong with 2.8.9.0, maybe to new for my rig lol.
Also fixed the DOORCONTROLLER error I had been having the past months.

Thanks

The ALX version MIO-Boards are a little different (because they control more stuff). As long as it works ... that's the main thing.

So, what older version of CC did you install that worked? We will complete this thread and should be helpful to the next Aurora ALX owner.

Used 2.7.5

I think I'm in bad luck.

fixed this, now I can't boot.

I'm getting 5 beeps twice while trying to boot, but never does.

I have been using this rig for years with no problem, this week has been a nightmare. Now it doesn't boot.

And I think I'm out of warranty. feels<ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per terms of use> if you know what I mean.

I'm getting 5 beeps twice while trying to boot, but never does.

Just work the problems.    Download PDF Service and Owners Manuals.

Replace coin battery. Reset CMOS. Load BIOS Defaults. Test operation.

Tried all that, except processor, don't have an extra one.

From what I read it's Mobo bricked.

I was running memtest because I had been getting random freeze in every single steam game.

Trying different things this week, I just realized problems started when I updated to A11 (including the TC we were able to fix), so I tried to get back to A04.

The bios update as usual but when it got into the reboot step, just kept there, beeping.

Never boot, took the laptop and well, all point it was a mobo bricked, followed Dell instruction step by step, still failed.

Going to gave them a call but I'm pretty sure what will be the answer since I'm out of warranty.

No industry wants to cover damage if they can skip that part.

Geez I just replaced GPU 2 weeks ago (more or less), 680 wasn't cheap, now this.

As said, years using this rig and things starting to fail recently, fail bad, I think the mobo was just dying, let's see what dell support have to say tomorrow, hope they can help. (economically help lol, I'm dead broken right now).
