It seems that there is some problem with the mouse, there is no driver problem

I'm starting to have the exact same issue. I think it won't work at all soon. I can left click and drag still, but it only works partially.

Yeah, I figured out a temporary and simple answer.

With one finger, carefully lift the left mouse button so theres a little more space. Then blow furiously into it.

should fix it for maybe a week. repeat.

Thanks. That actually did work. I blew some compressed air through it and it's working normal again.

If it doesn't stay fixed, I'll just look into getting a new mouse.

Cool this finger lift blow thing stopped working. After all I didn't expect it to be a permanent fix, but honestly Alienware or Dell should give me my money back. This is annoying and I want at least a replacement.

okirkland,

A standalone mouse purchase from Dell has the standard 90 day warranty. If your within the 90 days, contact Order Support and give them Dell Order number.

I had a similar problem with the Dell mouse included in the BlueTooth package that came with my XPS 420 back in November of 2007.  I had difficulty highlighting text.  Frequently, a number appeared twice when I clicked it while using the Windows calculator.  I bit the bullet and disassembled it to take a look.  The first picture below is of the mouse before disassembly.  The green circles in the second picture are around the locations of the mounting screws.  It was necessary to puncture the material at those locations to access the screws.  Once dissembled, I noticed that the switches are sealed and hopefully are not the problem.  I kept my fingers crossed and sprayed a bit of WD40 on the actuators for the left and right buttons in the top shell of the mouse.  It took me a while to remove all of the excess WD40, but when I did and reassembled the mouse, the mouse worked perfectly and has ever since.  One problem, though.  It is very difficult to get the two top screws in the holes in top shell.  It took a lot of trial and error, but I finally got them in.  The mouse buttons won't work unless each screw is tightly secured.

The mouse warranty is tied to a Dell order number. Only the original purchaser of the mouse who owns that Dell order number can request this. That being said, if the 90 day warranty has passed, we cannot replace the mouse. Get me the original Dell order number so I can see when this was actually ordered.

Alright. It's been a few months now, but I deem it necessary to come back and comment. Don't buy peripherals from Dell. I realize now it was a mistake for me to do so. The mouse was a gift, and I was unable to contact a real person who could get me a replacement. After a few months, my TactX mouse had:
-frayed cable to the point of permanent bends and plastic showing through the braids
-left click double clicks constantly, making it impossible to click and drag
-right mouse button popped up and is ~1 cm above the actual mouse making it difficult to right click
-paint on plastic peeled so now I have a small white patch on the top of the mouse

Regardless of the warranty, mice are supposed to last longer than this. I'm very disappointed in Dell, who I seriously considered one of my favorite manufacturers until now (my family has a 9 year old XPS line machine that still works like a charm). It's just that I was and am unable to contact anyone. My email is . Dell, if you're reading this and can get me a replacement of the same model or price, I would be grateful and your image would be somewhat redeemed. When I buy a high end device, I expect high end service.

Respectfully disappointed, Olin K.

I'm pretty sure the 90 days have passed, considering it's been five months since I first posted the problem. I know it was ordered some time December 2011, which makes it considerably older than 90 days.

However, the problem began to occur around February before the 90 day period had ended.

There's no way to prove this other than when I posted it, but I suppose I'll find the order number for you.

I have also run into this unfortunate problem.

I purchased  an Alienware X51 series desktop., with the tatix keyboard and mouse.. I paid in the neighbourhood of 1500$ CAD For the whole set. The machine and keyboard works great., in fact it works better when I'm doing work for my job late into the night and can see what i'm typing in the dark. But After about 40 days of use my mouse started acting up., The exact same problem arising (Double clicks when only single clicking, unable to drag as the mouse releases even though my finger is still depressing the button and even faults in the side keys not activating when pressed.) When i Contacted dell to inquire about it and hopefully to have the mouse sent into repair i just got tossed around from one person to another., in the end the contact centre closed for the day and i got cut off. I even made follow-up attempts to try and get them to answer for this faulty product i received.... and it was a vicious loop of the same thing., service rep after service rep telling me that this isn't the department that handles issues with Tactixs mice... I eventually gave up. Even tech support gave me useless information on how to fix it myself. 90 days later i am still trying to find a solution and now i'm dealing with the warranty having expired when all i wanted was the mouse fixed or replaced.

I am severely dissatisfied with the service., My company is considering my request to discontinue using dell products in lieu of a better hardware provider with a much better customer support. I went through so much hassle and my attempts fell on deaf ears. and now I'm stuck with a broken mouse with a expired warranty.

I respect Dell for its Usually durable high quality hardware but i have lost faith in dell when it comes to customer service. If something goes wrong with my company's computers, I'm not certain ill be able to get help to keep our servers and hardware running.

If Dell gets this and can finally get something done for me I would tremendously appreciate it and it would put me in the right direction to gaining its trust again.

Anyways... Does anyone know how to fix this mouse? Is it a software or a hardware problem? please let me know if you know how to fix this issue above a temporary fix.

Thanks.

Tibbs Mclaire
