Tactx Macros Active Even When Unassigned?

Hello, I apologize if this has been covered but in two days of searching I haven't been able to find a similar case.  I am using a reader program with my Alienware 18 and the tactx macros I tried to assign worked incorrectly.  I also noticed that when I left them unassigned the reader would go to the next book.  I would have thought nothing would happen if unassigned.  So the question is, is there some inherent default built in the the Tactx key, or is there some additional involvement needed by the reader in the way of code to handle the macros (or lack thereof) properly?  Thank you very much in advance for any help given,
