The Alienware customizable nameplate policy
* The Alienware nameplate can only be personalized when the system is configured on our website as shown in this picture: http://dell.to/L20kr2
* If you did not see that option in the Sales configurator, you are not eligible to get one after the system has shipped
* We can no longer order the nameplate for Refurbished, Reseller, or ebay/craigslist sold purchases
* If your laptop came with a blank nameplate, you will need to remove the nameplate from the bottom of the chassis and get a local trophy store to do the engraving
I was one of the last that was helped by one of the great people from these forums that work at Dell. In other forums, I have found part numbers, phone numbers and other places that possibly sell blanks etc. Now no matter what, it is all shut down, you can't get a replacement at all anymore. Funny, the most sought after after-market item that Dell has, since Alienware items are as strong in secondary sales as they are in primary sales. I would like to offer and idea/suggestion a change to this policy that would benefit the secondary market and do some incredible good. Here it is, how about sell them and donate the profits to a children's education program? Create one if you can't find one that you would like to support if need be, one for high school students going into video game design? (perhaps) We all know, that the secondary market is willing to pay crazy amounts of money to have a real customized name plate for a machine that is either used, refurbed or bought through somewhere else. How about making a customer happy, they will come back trust me and doing some good. A win, win with a positive end result.

Sorry if my view upsets you but in my opinion the engraved nameplate is a waste of time. For starters it is underneath the machine so, unless you have an M11x, M14x, or M15x nobody ever sees it. Even if you have a small machine, how many times are you going to turn it upside down to show your nameplate to someone ...and more to the point, do you really believe they are going to be impressed?
Lastly, when coming to resell time, a personalized plate could reduce the amount someone is willing to pay for the machine, unless you buy a new blank plate to replace it with.
I would much rather Dell scrapped the nameplate altogether and invested the savings in getting the AlienFX software upgraded so that it performs like it used to with the M17x R1. Look up that model on YouTube to see what I mean. Oh those were the days!

You can still get one made in any trophy supplier.

I could even go to a pet store and get a dog tag same dimension and have anything inscribed by the machine, just not the same.

I got moderated on 1 of my messages? Lol. Wow amazingly on a totally clean message! I received the email. It says I can edit it and repost it, but there wasn't anything to edit out lol. Sweet! At least the original message about an idea is still there

Not with the Alienware pic on the side and the Alienware language and bit! Same as you wouldn't want any knock off lighting program we who are into the name plates are into real. That is why people would even pay for blanks so the at least have the Alienware symbol on the side.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you. I used to be in the sign making business and we also did engraving. In those days we could engrave almost anything the customer wanted by digitizing from his artwork. Once the data was loaded into the computer the engraver would do its work. Today it is much simpler because artwork can be scanned and engraved images can be really complex. Here's an example of just how complex they can be!
The Alienhead logo is really simple to do. And as for the Alienware language, just install the Alienware font "Alien Caret Standard" on your PC and then type the word you want the engraver to scan. He may even be able to use the font directly so place it on a USB key and take it with you.

I am a graphic designer by tracked and education. I haven't ever seen this font. I think you just solved a bunch of people issues. I have to say I am mighty impressed! I have 1000's of fonts but never this.

Scootrcub1,
I just checked. The original message had a profane three letter word in it. The email should have made it clearer as to why the message was moderated.

No problem. It was the name of a movie about a kid who wanted to be a super hero. Nicolas Cage was in the movie. Actually the phrase is positive, but the Forum AI cannot know that.
