PS, if you find a SATA 1 drive in the dust bin and its all you can get, it will NOT upscale to SATA 2 specifications.  Example SATA 1 is 1.5GBs and SATA 2 is 3GBs, as the drive is made for 1.5, it will not speed up to 3GBs, however like I said, the SATA 3 which is 6GBs will slow down to SATA 2 specs if that is all your computer supports.  Sorry for the long post.

I'm sorry but I do not think that is correct.  Most if not all SSDs now are SATA 3, however it is supposed to be backwards compatible with SATA 2 and 1.x specs.  Example if you buy a SATA 3 HDD and plug it into a SATA 2 port, the data speed of the drive will slow down to match the bus speed of the SATA specification on the motherboard.  Another example is RAM.  People have purchased 1600Mhz RAM and installed it into their computers that max at 1333Mhz.   The RAM just slows down to match the appropriate speed available on the motherboard.  Now I will coincide that SSDs can be picky, at least they were a while ago.

Hi,

The Alienware M17x R2 supports SATA II so it would have to be a SATA II SSD for it to work properly.
