Which Aurora Model do I have?

I am trying to install windows using Tesla1856 's tutorial and I cannot figure out which model i have.  My computer model # is AA-3795CSB.  I bought it in 2010 from Best Buy.  How do i figure out if it's R1, R2, R3, R4?

Ok so I know this was recognized as "Gaming"  when i installed windows and installed the main drivers.  when I started to install other drivers, such as alienware command center, this became unrecognized.  My lights do not work.  I've tried uninstalling command center and reinstalling it and there is no change.  I uninstalled the new alienware and reverted back to the one that came with the resource CD and there is still no change.  Here is the SS of the Comand center screen below:

Windows also recognizes that there is a USB network adaptor drive missing, and asks me to install it, but it cannot find it when it searches.

On a semi unrelated note:

I am also having a problem installing Windows Service Pack 1

Try this. Go to command prompt, run as administrator, and at the prompt type Sfc/scannow Hit return and let windows correct any errors it might have. Then try reinstalling SP1.

update: windows.microsoft.com/.../troubleshoot-problems-installing-service-pack

ran through all of these solutions to fix the service pack failure, no luck, still get "Cannot configure service pack" during the restart process and that error screen when windows comes back up.

So my question is what do i do now?

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.  SP1 is still no able to configure windows

Did this machine come with Dell supplied mini-dedicated BlueTooth or WiFi modules (that run from MIO-Board)?

Yes, "Gaming Computer" there is MIO-Board.

You will have to create Dell Diags disc or bootable USB (if "Power Dissipation Fix" doesn't work).

See my post here:

http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/p/19454040/20128296.aspx#20128296

Paying special attention to "Power Dissipation" fix and testing MIO-Board (outside of Windows) with Dell Diagnostics (PSA - ePSA).
Verify that MIO-Board is still working outside of Windows.

You should NOT have tried Command Center from that old Resource Disc. It has been known to brick/kill MIO-Boards. You should have installed latest CC version ... v2.6x or higher. Always clean install CC ... never use "Upgrade function" inside app.

I'm curious ... did you dis-connect MIO-Board before clean install? If so, did you hook it back up properly later? Was machine off and un-plugged while working inside machine?

Ignore this for now. Revisit it later once you are sure all hardware and drivers are working (including MIO-Board).

Ok so just to confirm, run PSA first?  What am i looking for in the PSA that will verify the MIO board is running? (do i have to do the full memory test etc..)

I did not unplug the MIO board since I couldn't figure out what wire it was, and since I couldn't google what it looks like, i decided it was better i didn't start pulling random wires :)  While hooking up my SSD and HDD my machine was off and unplugged.

My computer didn't come with wifi, i know this only because i had to buy a usb wifi adapter with my computer.

ok so first.  Since i was poking around in my computer, how do i check if this thing is correctly plugged in?  where do i even look? what would the cable look like? etc..

With a minimum of Power and MB_USB-1 ... it should at least detect in Diags. MB USB1 header is along bottom edge of MB.

MotherBoard Connections:
MB USB1 - MIO-Board (one USB channel for MIO, one for FlexBay)
MB USB2 - Front-Top Panel (2 x USB 2.0 Ports)
Front_Panel - Front-Top Panel (Power Switch, Power Light, HDD Light)
Front_Panel - BLINK header on MIO-Board (wires in parallel with others ... 2 wires on each pin)
Firewire - Front-Top Panel (1 Firewire port)
Audio - Front-Top Panel (analog heaphone and mic)
Chipset Fan
MB_CPU_Fan - 3-pins of the 26-pin cable that goes to the MIO-Board (MB_MIO)

MIO-Board Connections:
Power supply - Molex 4 pin (5v/12v)
MotherBoard USB (MB_USB)
MotherBoard Front_Panel (BLINK)
MotherBoard MB_CPU_Fan (3-pins of the 26-pin cable that goes to MB_MIO)
Top Lighting Board 26-pin (MB_MIO)
FlexBay (USB Card reader)
BlueTooth Module
All exterior lights
Large case fans

"Top Lighting Board" Connections:
CPU_Pump (Asetek Cooler) pump
Sys_Fan (Asetek Cooler) radiator or main system fan
CPU_Fan - No connection
Mem_Fan (small case fan in top for memory)
Arrow - "Rear of case" external white lighting with switch (to help view external connections)

Ok I ran the tests from my Aurora resource CD (dell diagnostics), I didn't see anything that specifically said MIO board.  I did get this error:  5D00:0009 - UUTUSBTM Device_initializing_failure.   I saw fans, and USB but no lights or MIO board areas.

These are all signs that the MIO-Board is un-detectable ... locked up, bricked or dead.

You will have to correct this (and see these tests work) before it will work in Windows.

Power Dissipation Fix first. Try it several times before giving up.

Shut-down machine properly so it will turn off. Unplug from wall or UPS. Hold down power button for 20 seconds to dissipate any electricity in machine and MIO-Board. Wait another 20 secs before powering up. See if that very simple procedure resets MIO-Board.

Then PSA (Dell Diags). Custom Test.
there is an MIO-Board Test, Fan test, and a Lights test. You should be able to do all/most of those if MIO-Board is working.

My computer didn't come with wifi, i know this only because i had to buy a usb wifi adapter with my computer.

Leave this disconnected during initial Windows installs. Later, connect it and load it's drivers. I'm trying to see if the un-recognized USB network device in device manager is this or something inside the machine itself. What about Blue-Tooth (it's a different device)?

I really appreciate your help, but I do not understand that list at all.   I see here: [View:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRAYwcKhvEQ]  (starting at 3:40) there are a few plugs on this board, should i just check to make sure they are all connected?

Yes.

But to just get it to detect... the MIO-Board must be getting power (large 4 pin power plug ... for power). Also, the cable that goes from the MIO-Board to the motherboard's USB-1 header must be connected (for communication).

But, if you didn't mess with these cables, there is no reason they would be dis-connected.

Your problem is more likely:

- The "hardware detection" in the Windows clean install confused the MIO-Board (that's why I mention to dis-connect it)

- When you had some other problem, and you accidentally used the Command Center from the Resource Disc ... you "bricked" or killed your MIO-Board.

The "Power Dissipation Fix" sounds like nothing, but it works sometimes. Have you tried it? Go back and read my previous messages and also that thread I referenced.
