Win 8 Clean Install - Recovery Image on HDD damaged

Hi All,

I've been getting some BSOD lately, after some research it appeared due to a driver missing and a damaged windows configuration.

It is an Alienware 17

mid 2013

So I figured to do a factory restore and reinstall windows, but since this machine was shipped in mid 2013, it was shipped with windows 8 and not 8.1. The boot disk I received upon purchase does not allow me to recover my system with the windows options.

Neither does reinstalling the system via DVD boot works. The install couldn't see my hard drives correctly or is missing drivers.

Now I've done a system recovery (yeah amazingly it started back up normally this morning) but i'm still a bit worried and would prefer a clean install.

So decided to buy Alienrespawn Premium to try and recover my Factory Recovery Image and to reinstall the original windows 8 from scratch. But when selecting these options, I get the message that the image is missing or incomplete. When I try to select an other HDD it only asks to insert an external HDD with atleast 100 GB on it. Isn't there an option to select and internal HDD to put this system back up on? I've got 2 750 GB SATA HDD and one has been completely formatted for back up reasons...

Could someone please help me and instruct me what to do in this case?

A clean install would be the best way to go but I've tried everything I found through google in communities and fora's but still not getting to factory reset my PC....

Thanks in advance

My warranty has expired so to ask a back up CD is not going to work I'm afraid...

I have a cd from dell that came with the laptop, but as said my laptop was shipped with WIN8 not win 8.1

I cant do a clean install as described in the article because it tells me to load the correct drivers and that there is a part missing while my cd is in the laptop..

I need to find a way to recuperate the original recovery image on the HDD in order to reinstall the complete system with factory settings...

Please tell me how to proceed.

Sounds like your BIOS might be set to RAID.

Set BIOS to:

SATA Mode = AHCI Mode

Boot Mode = UEFI

Win7-DVD, Win-8-DVD, or USB flash drive should now boot. Use F12 one-time-boot menu.

Yes the best recommendation will be to make a clean installation of windows, if you don’t have the cd you can request it here.

As soon as the installation is done install all the necessary drives in the order stated on this article and when you are done with the drivers you can install the Alienreswpan and create a recovery cd just in case you need it at some point.

Here is a video on how to perform a clean installation of windows.

Ok thanks for that, managed to reinstall my system and drivers as described a few posts above.

But now I get the following error in Intel Rapid Storage Management: SATA SSD on Controller 0, Port 5 Incompatible...

I noticed my system is a lot slower when booting, it this due to the BIOS settings?

When I tried selecting RAID but then I could reboot my system..

What are the exact BIOS settings for Sata operation and Booting?

Thanks in advance
