WinPE screen resolution too small

I've had to do a lot of work in the WinPE environment, such as in the Windows Recovery mode, opening a Command Window, or reinstalling Windows 10 from USB Recovery Media. Many times I've had a problem where the video mode has been 640x480, and the apps expect the minimum to be larger. E.g., Windows 10 setup itself has dialogs that don't fully display in that small screen. And Macrium Reflect Free run from recovery media has dialogs that are cut off, such that you can't use them.

I read somewhere that Windows 10 has a minimum screen resolution of 800x600. And I thought I saw that even UEFI BIOS has a minimum greater than 640x480.

Is this a bug in Alienware Aurora R5 BIOS? (version 1.0.11 is what I have)

I've got a NVIDIA GTX 1070, driving a Dell 3007WFP via DVI. Native resolution is 2560x1600.

I've attached a photo showing a screen from Windows 10 setup, where the controls ("Use Cortana" and "Cancel"?) were clipped off the bottom of the screen.

Nice monitor (speaks to reliability of Dell monitors) and interesting problem.

Aurora-R5, Dell OEM GTX-1070, and Dell 3007WFP Monitor (via DVI)

Has this combination ever worked properly?
Are you still using the original Dual-Link DVI cable?
- That cable is kinda special since it must be "DVI Dual-Link" to reach full native resolution of  2560x1600.
Does it reach full native res in Windows-10 (with no cutting off at bottom)?

If cable is correct, and it works in Windows ... look for a setting in monitor. It should be set to Auto-Detect (non-fixed). Maybe something about Scaling. You can also try Defaulting it's settings.

Those low resolutions you mention are ... well, low ... so they should "fit" on the screen no problem.

Macrium Reflect bootable flash drive works fine here with my config (but I'm using DisplayPort).

Ok, now I see what you mean. Did you find a fix?

I can report that it does not appear to be a problem with the your Aurora-R5 or my R6, because the bootable Macrium Reflect Free v6.3.1745 Bootable Flash-Drive is doing the same thing on my Lenovo X1-Carbon Laptop.

As required, it was built with WinPE v10.0
