Windows 10 Upgrade Alienware-crash is known problem-do not upgrade: Fix- Go back to Windows 8.1

My Alienware x51 R2 also crashed in middle of Windows 10 upgrade that said was ready and tested by 10 Took to Microsoft today in VA: tech guy, also Dell certified, said known problem, his also crashed, said MSFT talked to Dell about Through F2/F12, visible on screen, able to check reboot to previous 8.1, takes about 20 minutes When call Dell tech support, they give you this email address: alienware_gaming_dtc@dell.com who will give you advice on what is posted here...start with HDMI cable... But easiest fix is to go back to previous 8.1, and DO NOT try to upgrade to Windows 10 until fixed-no date given... As 20+ Dell owner am very unhappy they have not ack this known problem AND not trained their tech people to give this simple fix.... Kudos to MSFT!

Hi,

When installing Windows 10 on an Alienware X51 system, the on-board HDMI port located at the upper part of the system becomes the default video port . If you have the monitor connected to the discrete video card ports at the lower part, it causes the screen to go black because it views this port as the secondary video port.

Once you connect the HDMI cable to the on-board port, the system should display the image and allow you to do the Windows 10 update. When you are on the desktop, you can try reinstalling the video card driver and using the latest version from the Nvidia/AMD site, this should fix the problem.
