X51 R2 Compatible RAM @ 1600mhz?

Hello All,

Hope this finds you well. I have a quick question regarding comatible RAM for the X51 R2. I made a mistake of upgrading to G.Skill Ripjaws a year or so ago and even though I purchased 1600mhz speed sticks, due to the lack of XMP access within the BIOS screen, they run only at 1333mhz.

As I have recently purchased a CPU upgrade - i7 4790k - as well as a GTX 1060, I want to correct this mistake and install 16GB of RAM @ 1600mhz. From researching various forums I understand that HyperX Fury are capable of achieving this. However, my question is whether the 1600mhz sticks will operate at this speed natively within the X51 R2. Or whether I need to purchase the 1866mhz (which will then automatically downclock to 1600mhz)?

Put simply, could anyone tell me whether these sticks would automatically operate at 1600mhz:

Thank you in advance for your time. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

With best wishes,

Dan

Hi All,

Just a quick update for anyone who is in the same position as me in future and would like a definitive answer to this question - I have successfully installed the 16GB HyperX Fury 1600MHZ (2x8 GB Sticks) and they do indeed operate at 1600mhz frequency.

Hi ZeDan‌,

This is the validated memory type for your system:

DDR3 Memory (Non-ECC only) 1600MHz, Supports 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB DIMMS.

Memory Min/Maz:

Minimum: 4GB, Maximum: 16 GB
4GB (2x2GB)
6GB (1x4GB + 1x2GB)
8GB (2x 4GB)
16GB (2 x 8GB)

Regarding the HyperX Fury, according to the specs it should run at 1600MHZ, but we have never tested this specific RAM so we can't guarantee a 100% functionality.

Hi Alienware-Eimy,

Thank you for the helpful response. As I wasted so much money on the wrong set of RAM last time I don't want to make the same mistake. The officially supported RAM seems to have a much slower latency too, which is causing me to look for better alternatives (hence the HyperX Fury). With the set I linked my biggest fear is that they will be downclocked to 1333mhz (as my G.Skill Ripjaws were). It's for this reason I was also considering the 1866mhz set, as I (probably foolish) thought that they would only be downclocked to 1600mhz (which is the speed I actually want). Do you think that this would be possible? Thanks once again for your time.

Try updating the Bios to the latest and let me know!

Hello Again Eimy,

I have an up-to-date BIOS and my G.Skill Ripjaws still operate at 1333mhz. It is because the 1600mhz speed needs to be activated via XMP (which we cannot access to toggle on the X51 R2). From what I have managed to find out, the HyperX Fury 1600mhz sticks I listed earlier are plug and play (unlike the ripjaws) and are supposed to automatically operate at the maximum speed supported by the CPU/Motherboard. As such I believe they should operate at 1600mhz with the X51 R2. I've seen lots of X51 owners list these particular sticks on their system specs, I just wanted to make sure that they will run at 1600mhz before I bought them. In the UK they are quite expensive. Cheers once again for your time.

With best wishes,

Daniel

My guess is it's a X51-R1 (with H61 Chipset) so ram runs at 1333mhz max.

In either case, you are done. If that ram runs stable in Dual-Channel at 1333, 1600 or whatever ... that is fine. Save your money.

Hi Tesla,

Thanks for the response. I have an X51 R2. I've not installed the sticks I linked in the original post and they do indeed operate at 1600mhz. I know it's a minor upgrade from the 1333mhz, but as I was already installing a new CPU and GPU I figured I'd make the PC as optimal as possible.

That should say 'I have now installed the sticks'

TLDR - HyperX Fury 1600mhz run at 1600mhz with an X51 R2.
