it depend of your cpu, you need to read the datasheet of your cpu.

Last year's 4790k X-51 only supported 16GB RAM, though the CPU supported 32.
Hi! Is this the correct (official) answer? The 6700k supports 32GB, however, the machine still may be BIOS-limited.
