alienware x51 graphics card not working

ok so i had my alienware x51 r2 for roughly 3 odd years. I am a gamer (as to why i got this computer) and i did notice that alot of intensive games were unplayable. I also found out that it matter what hdmi you use depending on if u want to use intergrated graphics or the actualy video card. When i was playing my games i didnt know this at the time and just went along with it. So now i am reaching out as i have realised that alot of games i have i cannot actually play. Is this a problem with just me or are other people getting or have had the same problem? And also when i use the bottom hdmi i get no display so i have already tried that.

Thanks in advance,

Nick.

Hi,

We recommend you try reinstalling the video card drivers, both the Intel and the NVidia/AMD drivers. You should be able to download the drivers from the Dell support site. You can uninstall the video card drivers from Device Manager, under Display Adapters (right click and uninstall). Install the Intel driver first and then the NVidia/AMD driver. If you connect your monitor to the onboard HDMI port on the top, the system will only use the Intel card, therefore, the games will run slow or they will be unplayable. After reinstalling the video card drivers, try connecting your monitor to the bottom port on the video card to confirm if you get a display.

alrighty i got it to update and the video card drivers are up to date. But as i expected my graphics card is still saying no display when i plug it directly into the graphics card.  But when i plug it into my top hdmi (the 1 im using now and the one the motherboard uses) it works fine and there seems to be no problem. I went onto device manager and i am using windows 8. Next to my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 there is a warning sign on the little icon. Is there a way i can find out what the problem is?

Edit: in the device manager, properties for my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, the device status is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

What could be wrong with my graphics card if windows is stopping the device?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Hi,

Are you using the drivers from the Dell site? You could try doing a clean installation of the NVidia driver and try using the latest driver from the NVidia support site.

Hi,

Thanks for confirming that, are you also running the latest system Bios firmware (version A10)? If not, click here for the download link and try reinstalling the NVidia drivers one more time.
