boot sequence change?

My X51's motherboard went south and was replaced recently. I alsoused the opportunity and upgraded other hardware a little bit.

After that BIOS was updated and other drivers reinstalled (with what dell support site "recommends").

And since then I have some minor but annoying problems:

- I cannot change boot sequence - I especially dont like the machine trying network boot every time. seems that BIOS resets itself to the factory order every time?

- I can't put the comp to "sleep" - is the graphic card "waking it up"? if so - how to fix this?

- minor annoying exterior color lights changes - i.e. one time the alien is lit, the next time it isn't, etc.

any advice would be appreciated :)

Hi mpedinburgh,

After setting the boot priority, did you save the settings by tapping F10 in BIOS to Save?

Drain the MB power (Turn off computer, remove AC Adapter and Battery, press and hold the power button down for about 20 seconds - the computer is not expected to turn on, reconnect the AC Adapter and Battery).

Ensure you have updated the latest version of BIOS:

http://dell.to/14vEOHI

  • During BIOS update verify that the computer is connected to an AC Adapter.
  • Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
  • Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Ensure battery charge is more than 30% during BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.

Now create a new AlienFX theme:

  • Open the AlienFX Editor in Command Center:
  • Access the Theme tab in the upper left corner of the AlienFX Editor and choose the New Theme Option to create a new theme:

Save the new theme at the location and name of your preference by selecting the Save Theme option:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the latest Alienware Command Center from the following link:

Refer the following links which has steps to Uninstall and reinstall command centre:

http://dell.to/13NPvyc

If needed, create a new AlienFX theme again.

Also, ensure the Power settings are set to sleep. Refer the following link for more information:

I just made an account to let you know that's really  rude that you woulD insult a person who just wrote all that support detail, entailing links and suggestions. If I was in charge of this board, you'd get a week long temp ban for showing suchh disrespect to a site official who just provided you with a suggeton on how to fix your *** boot order. I don't care if the threads dead or not, I hope you get an email notification and come to see this so you can hear what should have been said to you. Filthy mannors. You don't even deserve assistance.  Learn some common courtesy and general decency. *** degenerate.

TRIGGER WARNING - POSSIBLE TROLLING / REALITY CHECK

if you pms easily and have a temper I suggest you take a chill pill (xanex) and remember to not take everything in life so literally.

Dude I'm so sorry you have the unfortunate burden of carrying the weight (and embarrassment) of 1000 used dooshe-bags [if I spell it cleverly then you can't censor me ;) ] around town analgous to the scarlet letter. I can see how you easily get upset and get your panties in a bind. The community here wants to tell you that nobody cares you wasted your time creating an account, and remind you that your temper is a short fuse and you're likely to start PMS'in any time.

Can I say something on this matter? I hate when I get these responses too.. I know my cable tv provider and dvr top set box very well, but I know my dsl modem / router even more. Basically I had been through the whole customer service deal-i-o and in  the end I was given a new router via a tech that was to come in a few days. Well then a year or so down the road the same unique problem happened again.

Regardless of the mass quantities of clear concise irrefutable information I told the tech they still needed to do a basic diagnostic on the ISP base location to the users access point and run me through a series of test/check/easy solutions because that is how they fix a whole *** load of problems.. More than you'd ever imagine. Have you ever been on the phone with a tech that asked you, "The device is plugged in to a power source correct" as he laughs at the stupidity of having to ask in the first place. This isn't a joke. Some people are freaking clueless when it comes to this stuff and the easiest of problems (unbeknownst to you) that have simple solutions. People are stupid. They do stupid stuff, and this is a very frequent case with people in america IMO. They don't critically think, they expect instant gratification, etc. etc.

If your PMS is way too out of control where you didn't get a word I am rambling about, I will give you the good ol american version.

Irregardless of what you have tried to fix the problem already, even taking into account that you are an expert (say you built the device or manufacture it, or even install it in peoples houses everyday) and try your hardest to convince the customer service rep that you know the solution and you don't need to do all this *** and you know exactly what the problem is, they are still going to make you

(1) restart your computer

(2) restart your router (unplug for 30 sec)

(3) etc.

before they just go ahead and believe you and give you free *** or have to spend more money on you.

I knew I needed a new router and that's what I told my person after every freaking test and then at the end she laughs and repeats exactly what I'd been saying the whole *** time.

Just remember they have to do this because of idiots like you. It is possible to be so cocky that you miss the simplest of things. Please don't rip on people trying to help you. Before he devotes his time to you, you must have the prerequisite completed. Why would he waste his time with you if you can't try the most common fixes to ALL problems. Just imagine how many times chucks like you didn't do any research or read any directions or try the easy fixes only to get to a master tech and have him waste hours on your miserable excuse of existence only to find out that the power strip on off switch was being pressed down....   yes the idiots are taking over.... we are the 1%, they are the 99%.

Only stupid people are breeding. I suggest you keep it in your pants or wrap it, because we certainly don't need more of your thinking in the world.

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR CMOS BIOS BATTERY IS DEAD. IDIOT
