hard disk firmware

Hello,

a few days ago dell delivered me a new hard disk cause my old one was making ticking noises.

They replaced it with a Western Digital (WDC-WD10EALX-759BA1 ATA DEVICE).

But ever since i got it in my system it makes alot of noise just like its transfering large files or doing a heavy scan, its the same noise.

Since the old hard disk was a Seagate, i was wondring is the noise caused by the outdated firmware?

Im thinking of updating to the latest Western Digital firmware

but im not sure if this will fix the problem.

anyone got advise on what i should do? upgrade firmware, or not? or what else?

thanks,

How would dell recommend doing this installation? (if its needed at all) *and if its not needed what is causing my hard disk making this much noise and make it lagg so bad?

Hi Roald1986,

This message board depends on the participation of volunteers like myself. You need to be patient to give us time to respond.

First, please tell me the model of your Dell desktop and operating system. Since firmware only applies to the specific device, that cannot be the cause of this problem. However, if you did not properly secure the drive when you installed it, that could be a potential problem.

Hey,

its a Alienware x51 with Nvidia geforce GTX 555 and Intel Core i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz  3.00 GHz with 8,00 GB memory.

I have windows 7 , 64 bit installed, with a clean windows install.

My previous hard disk was a Seagate but they replaced it with a Western Digital, since then its making noise all the time like its transfering large files.

Even makes the noise when im at the inlog screen of windows and dont do anything.

''However, if you did not properly secure the drive when you installed it, that could be a potential problem.''

how do i properly secure the drive?, i looked up guides for installing hard drives and i did all the steps including defragmentation and disk cleaning.

I downloaded all the windows updates too, but it was making the noise even after a fresh install of windows when the internet cable wasnt plugged in.

I let the computer running for a few hours when no tasks active and it still made the noise.

Could someone please explain me what to do, or otherwise il phone Dell Helpdesk tomorrow cause i cant play my game now :(

thanks,

Roald1986
