You may have done the .inf mod wrong. I suggest you get the Nvidia driver Alienware has for their latest laptops as you won't have to mod anything (I think).

As well, are you on Windows 8 / 8.1? If so, you'll need to disable driver signature enforcement (you would need to do this if you still want to install your modded driver).

It took alot of work, but we finally managed to figure it out! Thank you so much for you help, I really mean it. :) warning to anyone who tries this though......

Save the files with the changed IDs, and do NOT try to do a automatic update in device manager.

The GTX 660m is not supported for the m17xR3, so you'll need a modded driver.

Here you go.

I am interested in trying to mod it so that it will support my graphics card. Is there a guide somewhere that i can follow to get this done or can you give me some advice on how to do it? Thank you very much for all of you help so far!!   [:D]

Just rechecked, and no, but you can mod the file to support it. If you don't wish to, read below.

Or you can download the Nvidia drivers for the most recent Alienware laptops. I think it has support for the GTX 660m. You can find these in Dell's Support site, in the Alienware 13, 15, or 17 R2 page.

Before that, what is the GTX 660m detected as in device manager? Standard VGA adapter?

And can you provide a link as to where you bough the GTX 660m? Only Dell and Clevo GTX 660m's work in Alienware laptops.

in Device manager it says "Standard VGA  graphics adapter" As for the type of card I purchased here is the link:

Just wanted to make sure.

Here's a quick guide. It's for the GTX 680m, but it also applies for the GTX 660m and other GPUs as well. Post #15 is the one you should be looking at (page 2).

I downloaded the drivers pack recommended from NVIDIA website, found the card and laptop hardware IDs and modified the nvdmi.inf file as suggested. After trying to run setup i encountered a "graphics driver failed" error and at the same time the Standard VGA adapter disappeared from device manager. After that i tried different ways to solve the issue by scanning and reinstalling standard vga adapter and manually updating drivers etc but with no luck. My concern is that i still don't see the name of the card (NVIDIA GTX 660M) anywhere in device manager as if my computer still can't recognize it. Any ideas or suggestions?

It took alot of work, but we finally figured i out! hank you for all of your help, I really mean it .:)  Word of advice for anyone who wants to follow this.....

save your files with the changed IDS and DO NOT try to update software automatically from Device manager, as it will reinstall Standard VGA graphics adapter. and you will need to follow the same steps when updating driver.

Once again Thank You very much!!
