Adrian005,
Do not install any driver until you have tested the PC. I only install a new driver to correct a specific issue I may be having.
First Time Boot Up Instructions -
* Once the PC is unpacked, do not connect any external devices to the laptop. Only have the PC AC adapter plugged in
* Power the PC on
* The Factory Image will expand. Just follow the prompts. When done, restart the PC
* Once into windows, connect your broadband cabling to get on the internet
* Once connected to the internet, allow the Windows Update Tool to load only the High Priority updates. Do NOT load the Optional ones
* Reboot the PC when finished
* Create a Windows System Restore Point at this time. For more help on this, ask the guys on the OS board (http://dell.to/pYZ8vP)
* Reboot the PC when done
* Now, if you plan on adding other peripheral (printer, scanner, etc.), load the drivers first, then attach the device to the PC
* Reboot the PC when done
* Download the FREE CleanUp! software to your desktop (http://bit.ly/OIgOM)
* Run CleanUp452.exe to install the software
* Double-click the CleanUp! icon to start it
* Click No to running it in safemode
* Click Options
* Check all except for Favorites Places / Bookmarks
* Click OK
* Click CleanUp! The first run may take awhile
* When done, close CleanUp!
Windows Updates - I have mine set to check but not install them. I always choose Custom so I can see them. I am only concerned with the High Priority updates.
Bios updates - I only update the Bios to correct a specific issue I might be having. I do not load a Bios update just because there is a newer one posted.
Sound - Generally speaking, if it is working, do not update the driver.
Video - Test our WHQL driver in all of your games first. If you have issues, then remove ours and load the retail driver. Make sure you do a System Restore point BEFORE loading any driver.
AWCC (Alienware Command Center) - Create a profile in your name, then make changes only to that profile. That way if an error occurs, you can reset AWCC back to our defaults.
Virus Software - I use the free Microsoft Security Essentials (http://bit.ly/svoX1j) rather the PC Doctor, Mcafee, or Norton. I scan my systems with MSE once a week. I also use the free Glary Utility (http://bit.ly/bCtyRl) once a week.
