stuck in public network?
recently upgraded to Netgear N600 dual band router. since my X51 has selected public network and I cannot access the internet. Other computers in the house had no problems with this. prior to switching routers this was not a problem just a weak signal and slow. any help appreciated

Get x51 working with new router with "wired connection" first (ethernet wire). Then, you can work on wireless (if you must ... but wired is better).
If x51 must be wireless only, use other machine for wired. This is easier and will verify router it setup and working properly.

In "Network and Sharing Center" click on it and change it.
If that doesn't work, try this:
support.microsoft.com/.../2578723
You can also just change the "local IP" of the router ... maybe it's 192.168.2.1 ... so change to 192.168.1.1 or similar. As long as the x51 is set to obtain IPs automatically, it should re-prompt that question since it's connecting to a "new" network.

Well, I think x51 should still be able to connect.
At Command Prompt, remember to run these commands (if machine has trouble connecting the first time or after a reboot)
IPCONFIG
IPCONFIG /release
IPCONFIG /renew

Just helped a client setup a WNDR3700v3 - N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router.
Worked with no problem ... even did it over the phone and they had a fairly large network (some machines, like printer, even had static IPs).
