ALienware Alpha - Controller Issue
I just got my Alienware Alpha as of Friday, instead of going through console mode with the controller provided I instead plugged in a mouse & keyboard & went into desktop mode from the beginning. Now my 360 controller is acting like a mouse & controller simultaneously. I looked around & apparently because I skipped console mode, I can't toggle off the mouse option for the controller. I've tried uninstalling Alpha Command Center because apparently it worked for somebody else, I've had no such luck however.
Thank you, in advance.

Hi,
I did something similar when I first got the Alpha. I have since come to the conclusion that it's not a good idea to remove the Alpha UI (or any of the alpha software), but there is a good compromise.
I would suggest that you re-install the Alpha UI/command center - Not sure if this is possible - if not you will have to restore your Alpha to factory settings and start again (I had to do this!). Hopefully this won't be too bad as you only got it on Friday.
You will need to log into the Alpha UI a couple of times and do updates. There are at least two updates which fix the controller issues and also video issues too. You can only do these updates with the Alpha UI, so it is important to keep it for further updates.
Now, onto the solution. This makes it possible to boot directly to Windows instead of loading the Alpha UI.
Log into desktop mode.
- Open up a Run (command) window by holding the Windows key and tap R
- In the Run box type: netplwiz
- This opens a User Accounts settings window. Check the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" checkbox.
- Click OK.
Once you have done the above your alpha will boot like a normal Windows PC, so you can choose which user account to log in to (either Alpha UI or Windows desktop), and it will default to the last one used. The boot up time is much faster, but it will require you to enter your password like a normal Windows PC.
The only issue I have found with this is that after a Windows update the controller stops working. I suspect that this is because Windows does a full shutdown and restart after updating rather than using the fast boot that it normally does. All you need to do if this happens is to log into the Alpha UI again, then log out and back into your Windows account. This will fix it until the next Windows update in which case you just need to do the same again!
I hope this helps. I've been running with this setup for a couple of months and it has worked well.
