Alienware 17: Intel Core i7-i7-4800MQ processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.7GHz w/ Intel(R)Turbo Boost),

Hi , I want to invest in the above laptop for GIS work rather than gaming due to the high end specs. My IT guys has come back to me stating that these machines have heating problems and we are just paying for a name. Seriously now how would any of you rate the above machine. I always been a fan of the alienware brand but in the past it was a no-no as they were too expensive. I'm now very determined and need all honesty here as the choice I make will have to be or another 4 years. Thanks Reds

Please define GIS.

However, if it's any kind of serious work ... listen to your IT guy .

A Dell Precision Mobile Workstation (laptop) is much better suited for non-gaming computer usage. Search this forum for specific examples of Alienware laptops "trying" to be used in work or mission-critical applications.
