Alienware Aurora R3 (Early 2011) Windows 10
Hi all,
I have an Alienware Aurora R3 (Early 2011) running Windows 7 64-bit. Windows 10 has downloaded and says ready. So I start the udpate and I get as far as two reboots, and then the screen freezes with the circle that goes around stopping.
Could be have something to do with the UEFI boot in bios?
I have tried twice and get the same error code from Windows update which is
WindowsUpdate_C1900101" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"
Thanks,
Dave

Hi,
Unfortunately, according to the policy document, the Alienware Aurora R3 system will not be supported on Windows 10. Some users have successfully installed Windows 10 on these non-supported systems. But they did all the driver investigation (example = installing 7/8/8.1 drivers) to force it to work. Dell does not have the resources to do this on non-supported systems. Regarding the error message that you received, click here to view a thread from the Microsoft Community forum, it may be helpful.

The fundamental problem is that DELL and Alienware do not support their systems beyond a year or so from the purchase date.
When was the last motherboard update for the R3 systems? it was version A06 dated Nov of 2011.
I purchased a Nvidia 770 graphics card last year and the motherboard wouldn't recognize the card. I called DELL support and they said that only the following cards (a small list of cards from 2011) were supported. the machine will boot, but it takes 90 seconds of beeping from the motherboard before windows takes over and boots the system.
I had another problem updating an alienware m15 laptop with a new video driver, called support and the engineer couldn't understand why I would want to update the video driver.
personally, I will never purchase another alienware computer ever again. it laughable that they call themselves the ultimate gaming system. it should be made clear to buyers that the system is sold on a AS IS basis only.
the best thing you can do is either hide the update on the windows updater and stay on win 7 or build a new system yourself or thru a customer oriented company if you really need to use win 10.

I think Aurora R3 is EFI ... so not truly UEFI and not Legacy BIOS either. Save yourself a lot of problems and get a video-card with Dual-Bios like newer MSI ones.

Rodrigo,
Thanks for sharing what the policy doc shows for support. I would like for you to share will all of your higher ups that I will be slamming Dell and the Alienware products on my Facebook page and twitter with my thousands of followers. This is *** and you know it. The hardware in this system is far from antiquated and should be able to upgrade to windows 10. Also, I will never, ever purchase another Dell or Alienware product again and I've owned Dells and Alienware computers for the past 15 years.
Peace out,
Dave Wilber
