Alienware Aurora R5 Base - using Intel HD Graphics 530 card, not GeForce GTX 1080

Hi all,

I just received my Alienware Aurora R5 Base. I downloaded and ran up BF1... and it looked terrible.  Really poor framerate, even at low settings.  I went to Control Panel > Devices and it lists the following;

Intel HD Graphics 530

GeForce GTX 1080

I think BF1 is using the Intel card and not the GeForce card, which would explain the terrible FPS.  However, the question is why?  Having though about it (I'm now at work), I believe I plugged the monitor into the on-board graphics card (the Intel HD Graphics 530) rather than the GeForce GTX 1080.  Would this mean that BF1 (and other games) would try to use the Intel card as opposed to the GeForce card - i.e. was I a donut when I plugged the monitor in, or is there something else which could account for this?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I think so. Connect to 1080. I think they used to cover the Intel-IGP port, but it still works and some people might want to (or need to) use it in some (lame) configs.

In your case, I would try to disable Intel-530 (either in BIOS or Windows) and try to make the system as normal as possible. Only exception is if it can sit there quietly unused. Surely, they don't expect a desktop to use NVidia Optimus?
