Hi,

The problem could be related to the Motherboard instead of the battery.

Please check if the AC adapter light flickers, fades out or completely turns off when you connect it to the laptop and access the BIOS to check if the AC adapter type says unknown

The AC adapter light does flicker inside the aliens eyes. And the BIOS does say unknown. Well if it is a Motherboard issue, how would i go about fixing it?

Make sure you have the latest BIOS A13 and try a power drain (turn the system off, disconnect AC adapter and battery, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, reconnect and turn on).

If issue persists, send me a private message with your Service Tag, contact information and link to this thread so I can assist you further.

I am also having the exact same problem with my Alienware M14x R2.  I have 2 identical chargers and the replacement works better than the original but they both have the same problem now.  The computer is only 2 years old.  Could this be a Windows 7 problem because the charger show Unknown intermittently?  Thanks

If the charger is recognized intermittently it's either an issue with the motherboard or the charger.
I'm not quite certain we have replacement motherboards for the M14XR2 model but I could try and find out.

If you want you can send me a PM with your Service Tag and a link to this thread. I'll see what we can do.

Hey I messaged someone from support they took me through the troubleshooting and told me I needed a new battery and a hard drive. So I bought them. I installed them and I'm still having the same problem. So basically I just wasted over 200 dollars on parts that didn't even fix my computer. Please help.

I'm having the exact same issue with my Alienware 14R2, gone through extensive troubleshooting and the issue still persists. My original battery wouldn't charge above 45% and was shrinking in charge capacity by a few % each month. It stated plugged in/not charging in Windows 10 and BIOS showed the charge state changing every second. It wouldn't charge above 45% even when turned off, so not a Windows fault. I purchased a new battery which initially charged fully but then within 2 mths started doing the same thing (but was capped at 65% when I first noticed it). This battery however says plugged in/100% charged but instantly drops to 65% when unplugged. Windows desktop battery mode is not activated and BIOS again shows an erratic charge state. Dell have now replaced my charger and I've been through 3 refurbished mainboards trying to fix the issue. The 1st change in mainboard corrected the failure to charge the battery but in itself had a faulty keyboard controller and had to be replaced. The 2nd change in mainboard had the same fault as my original but more extreme in that it won't charge the battery at all. The 3rd change in mainboard seemed ok initially (although slow to boot compared to the others) but after another month the same fault has returned and the battery won't charge above 60% now. Clearly this is a model fault given 3 of the 4 mainboards used in the life of this machine have shown similar issues. I've also tried removing the battery and doing the power drain but nothing. My machine has warranty until the end of the year and I want to get this sorted before it expires, so does anyone have any further insights?

On the off chance the Windows desktop battery mode drivers were corrupted and communicated to the battery to not charge, I've just performed a clean install of Windows 10 on a new drive. The problem still exists......
