Alienware M15X Fried / Upgrade list

Hi guys,

I got my son a 2nd hand M15x model P08G which had been seemingly upgraded, from what i could tell it had the following...

i7 940xm, 16gb ram, 7900series 6000 firepro GFX (workstation), 256gb ssd, and an upgraded power brick

not sure which motherboard but tbh i wasn't much impressed with the performance.....

He recently spilled (part of) a glass of water on the left side of the keyboard right above the processor and now it wont power up so i think its fried.....

What i'm thinking now is, its a nice laptop and worth a little bit of work, so i'm gonna use it as my next project for the near future and was wondering if i can upgrade this system from scratch..

Would a newer motherboard fit in the chassis like from an R2 or M17x and if so can you recommend any particular parts list to go shopping for..........

I'm in the process of upgrading an MSI laptop at the moment and have replaced the GTX 570m with a GTX 970m 6gb and am pretty impressed with the performance so i'll be using another one of those for a start

i understand i will be chucking some money at this so any recommendations will be considered
